This week’s NXT didn’t have any women’s matches, unfortunately, but what it did have was a lot of segments. Dakota Kai turned on her now former ally and tag team partner, NXT Women’s Champion Raquel Gonzalez last week. So why did this happen? According to Kai, if it wasn’t for her then Gonzalez would still be nothing.
Early on when Gonzalez made her debut at TakeOver: Portland the purpose was simple, for her to stand behind Kai and be there when she needed her. Gonzalez ran through everyone that stood in Kai’s way. Tegan Nox, Mia Yim, Shotzi Blackheart, and even Rhea Ripley were victims of Gonzalez’s path of destruction. What this ended up doing was making Gonzalez the star and it ended up having Kai fade into the background.
For TakeOver: Stand & Deliver, then-champion Io Shirai chose Gonzalez as her opponent and didn’t even consider Kai. This was the moment that things started going down the other side of the mountain for Kai as Gonzalez raised up. Kai felt that it should have been her celebrating an NXT Women’s Championship win alongside then-RAW Women’s Champion Rhea Ripley and SmackDown Women’s Champion Bianca Belair. And Kai is not happy that Gonzalez didn’t even seem to want or care to get back the NXT Women’s Tag Team Titles.
“I was known as Raquel’s sidekick. I am no one’s sidekick.”
Kai is on a collision course to become NXT Women’s Champion, “Raquel, you said there was no one left. how about me? I brought you into this world and now I take you out of it when I become NXT Women’s Champion.”
In the main event, Indi Hartwell’s heart was on the line as Dexter Lumis faced Johnny Gargano in a Love Her or Lose Her match. The stipulation was if Gargano won then Hartwell had to be done with Lumis. Gargano did win, but that didn’t stop love from happening. As The Way made their way up the ramp after Gargano’s win, Hartwell ran back towards Lumis in the win and the two showed that their love is strong and isn’t going to be broken by some stipulation.
Other segments of the night included the NXT Women’s Tag Team Champions Io Shirai and Zoey Stark attempting to form a bond. Stark wants to be close friends with Shirai the way that Kairi Sane was. Franky Monet also stated that she intends on rebuilding The Robert Stone brand and taking charge. Monet is reeling from her first loss last week since joining NXT and she doesn’t want it to ever happen again.
