Slammiversary Rewind: Brooke vs. Gail Kim in a Knockouts Title Match (2012)

Tonight at Slammiversary, Knockouts Champion Angelina Love will put her title on the line against Gail Kim. Leading up to the match, we’re taking a look back at memorable Knockout moments from Slammiversary history.

Today, we’re going back to 2012, when Knockouts Champion Gail defended the title against rookie Brooke.

Gail heavily underestimated Brooke, toying with her and dominating most of the match. Like a true underdog, though, Brooke pulled off the impossible, shocking Gail with a sudden roll-up pin that earned her a three-count and the Knockouts Title.

With the win, Brooke became Knockouts Champion for the first time in her career.

AJ Lee and CM Punk Get Married

150

Congratulations are in store AJ Lee, as she has married former WWE Superstar CM Punk according to a report from PWInsider.

Few details are known, but the site reports that the couple was married either last night or early this morning in a small, private ceremony.

Rumors of the couple’s engagement began swirling back in March when Lee was spotted on WWE television with what appeared to be a engagement ring. Punk added fuel to the rumors when he announced at a Chicago Cubs game that the two would be married this month.

Congratulations to AJ and Punk!

Slammiversary Rewind: Madison Rayne vs. Roxxi in a Title vs. Career Match (2010)

Tomorrow night at Slammiversary, Knockouts Champion Angelina Love will put her title on the line against Gail Kim. Leading up to the match, we’re taking a look back at memorable Knockout moments from Slammiversary history.

Today, we’re going back to 2010, when Knockouts Champion Madison Rayne defended her belt against Nikki Roxx, who put her career on the line when Madison challenged her to do so.

Roxxi put her blood, sweat and tears into the match from the very start, getting busted open when Madison hit her with a microphone. All of the effort was to no avail, though, as Madison managed to get the win, retaining the title and ending Roxxi’s TNA career in one fell swoop.

SmackDown Redux (June 13th, 2014): Alicia Sends Aksana Packing, Summer Goes Attacking

What’s up Diva fans and welcome to this week’s SmackDown Redux. It’s been an eternity since I stepped in Steven’s shoes and brought you the fun and frolics of WWE’s ‘B’ show yet I had to make an exception this week. I know how all the readers would be devastated if I didn’t write-up Aksana‘s last match so out of the goodness of my heart, I volunteered to do this week’s SmackDown and here I am.

In addition to the implosion of FoxSana, a main-roster Diva also joins Adam Rose‘s party posse in a bid to get one over on Layla. I think I’ve already given the game away so without further ado, let’s get cracking!

TO THE VIDEO!

Our first Divas sighting of the night is of the English Muffin Layla, who is dancing alongside her stud muffin, Fandango. Aaw, muffin love. After Fandango loses to Adam Rose, one of his Rosebuds stays behind and it pays a remarkable resemblance to the Gobbledy Gooker. The rooster like party-goer has its eyes set on Layla. I’m praying right now that Maryse has donned the outfit for another classic moment.

Summer Rae is revealed as the mysterious fowl and even if you were unsure at first due to the blonde hair, it is obvious it’s Summer as she took the outfit off in about 2 seconds as opposed to Maryse’s five hours and 42 minutes. Summer goes crazy on Layla and these two are ripping at those weaves!

Summer also appeared on WWE Backstage Fallout with Renee Young. Sassiness to the absolute maximum on display! I kind of smelled some babyface behaviour yet at the same time Summer came across heel-ish as well. Tweeners really confuse me! What didn’t confuse me in any way though was Renee. Solid work from her yet again.

Later in the night, it’s time for our match as we see Aksana, ready to return to the land of the shovels (HA!), faces the cray Alicia Fox. Watch your eye sockets Alicia. Also, I am praying I don’t have to see the sexy crawl one more time. Please Neysus, I am begging you.

Alicia starts the match hoping for a handshake yet fair play to Aksana, she’s no idiot and slaps Alicia in the face and gets right to business. The unemployed Lithuanian hits some clotheslines, a kick to the gut and a suplex, all without injuring someone. I am flabbergasted. Aksana keeps on the offensive, drilling some elbows into the chest of her former friend.

Following a cover, the pair get back to a vertical base. Alicia drills Aksana with a forearm but her brief amount of luck runs out as she misses a Scissors Kick and gets hit with a nice Divo Drop. See people, I described it as a nice. I can be complimentary! Unluckily for Aksana though, she can only get a two count.

Aksana then goes for a big splash randomly and she seems to jump awkwardly. The move doesn’t pay off as Alicia gets her knees up and kicks Aksana before hitting her gorgeous Northern Lights Suplex. It’s not enough to get the win so Alicia tries going for a submission instead. She locks in a lengthy chinlock (yawn!) until Aksana breaks out by squashing Alicia in the corner. Alicia fights right back though, hitting what I would describe as a Spiked Leg Lariat for the win. Alicia then starts high-fiving Aksana’s lifeless body. Hilarious!

Thoughts: Aksana went out with a very competent performance. The match was quite enjoyable and I especially liked Alicia’s potential new finisher and her side-splitting aftermath.

Now onto the Lithuanian elephant in the room, this was Aksana’s last match. A woman who I have had it in for for quite some time was released earlier this week. Let’s be serious, I’ve thrown a lot of shade towards Aksana and whilst she was in my opinion, and in Chris Jericho‘s opinion (thanks for having my back Y2J), bad in the ring, no one deserves to be living their dream one minute and then on the unemployment line the next.

Aksana showed week after week that she had a lot of charisma and at times, she was really comical. It is a real shame she wasn’t able to shine more in a comedic managerial role as I feel she would have excelled at that. Even better, WWE should have kept her hair blonde and brought The Aksana Show to the main roster. That stuff was gold.

I’m going to leave you with the funniest Aksana moment ever. No sarcasm at all, I absolutely loved Aksana doing this. This is her infamous Aksana Show with her guests Mason Ryan and Bo Dallas, then known as Bo Rotundo. The graphics are cheap, Mason’s acting is utterly horrendous (“The future is Mason Ryan.” HA, I don’t think so) yet Aksana shines through.

“WHATCHU GONNA SAY?”

Best of luck Zivile, you provided some fun comedic moments! Naomi, you can now sleep well at night.

And with that, stay tuned, Jack will be back!

NXT Redux (June 12th, 2014): The BFFs Get Fierce… With Each Other

0

What’s up Diva fans and welcome to this week’s NXT Redux! After a swap in Reduxes two weeks ago and a short holiday away last week, I’m back and what a match to come back to! Before we move any further along, cheers to Erin for being a fantastic foster mother last week. Now I’m back, perhaps you can be a nanny to NXT every now and again instead. Eringenia Doubtfire has quite the ring to it!

This week’s match all came about due to the staredown that ended the Divas segment last week and it pits WWE Divas Champion Paige, Emma and Bayley against NXT Women’s Champion Charlotte, Sasha Banks and the returning Summer Rae; the BFFs are back together! Shame they don’t look so happy about it. Can they coexist to get the win?

TO THE VIDEO!

Out first is my favourite NXT Diva (calm down Paige!) not also on the main roster (saved myself excellently), its ‘ITS BAYLEY’! Seriously, why does Eden do that? Out second is Emma and her random-as self and closing out the team is my bride-to-be Paige.

The BFFs make their joint entrance next and they DO NOT look happy! There’s pushing, shoving, scrunched up expressions and a big reek of dissension in the year. You need to pull yourselves together ladies. Sidenote: This is the first time I’ve had the platform to say that I really like Charlotte’s new theme song. Woo!

The NXT Champ and Emma start things off with Charlotte showing off her strength as she and Emma jockey for position. Emma utilizes a collar-and-elbow armdrag before waving through the ropes, shouldering Charlotte in the gut and hitting a sunset flip for a one count. Charlotte rebounds with a knee and starts to get cocky until Emma slaps the cockiness right out of her! Now that was a slap!

Instead of capitalizing, Emma just stands there and gets kneed in the gut and Charlotte proceeds to tag in Sasha. The most recent twosome incarnation of the BFFs keep the quick tags going, much to the dismay of Summer Rae. Emma tries to get her energy going after a reversal in the corner, yet the craft NXT Women’s Title holder distracts the ref, allowing Sasha to trip Emma to the arena floor as we go to commercials. Good job we did as Renee Young was going wild on commentary over a borderline sexist comment! Breathe Renee, breathe!

Back from the break and Summer has finally got in the ring and she is looking vexed. For being so annoyed about not being tagged in, she doesn’t stay in long as Charlotte comes back in the ring and hits Emma with some piercing shoulder blocks. Sasha gets in next and as you expect, is the one who mucks it all up. After a chinlock, she gets locked in the DilEmma in the corner, a move which allows Emma to create some space, get her breath back and tag in good ol’ Baylz!

Bayley clobbers Charlotte with axe handles, strikes she follows up awesomely with a massive shoulder thrust and bottom rope springboard corner elbow. Bayley then hits an exploder suplex, only for her pin attempt that followed be broken up by Sasha. Carnage ensues as Paige thrust kicks Sasha, only to then be thrown out by Sasha, who then is thrown out by Bayley. Charlotte slithers behind Bayley and hits Charlotte’s Web yet the tenacious Bayley kicks out. Charlotte boots a fallen Summer Rae out of the ring (she was forearmed in the face by Bayley) and this random distraction costs Charlotte who gets rolled up for the win by Bayley!

The aftermath is not pretty and Summer is vexed. No – Summer is pissed. Charlotte is all like “I didn’t invite you to my BBQ” as Summer gets all up in her grill, hairflipping like the best of them. “I MADE YOU. I MADE YOU TWO!” screams Summer. Summer, you forgot the word lose on the end of those two sentences…

Thoughts: This match was just ok to me. I absolutely love the story of the BFF break-up and the heel girls showcased how brilliant they either have always been or have become. All of their mannerisms were on-point. I was also a fan of Bayley’s offense and I really hope that eventually, she gets a fair shot at the title. I hope she’s not next in-line as that would most likely mean Charlotte would retain as it would be her first defence, yet you never know (or you do know if you have seen any spoilers). Am I giving any hints or am I not? DUN DUN DUUUUUN!

Onto the negatives now. The ending distraction was really random and too forced. Summer should have tried to tag herself in accidentally bump into Charlotte, not just lye there like a sack of spuds. She technically wasn’t providing a distraction at all so Charlotte being so bothered made her look logically daft. Shout out to Renee Young too, you can commentate girl! A lot of excellent points raised from her this week.

I also didn’t like the fact that Paige got to do one move, which was then no sold. Not to mention she didn’t manage to get the epic kick sound effect this week. Double whammy of letdown! Paige really should have been booked to do more. I get that Bayley was made to look really strong in that she didn’t need Paige’s help at all, yet Paige was made to look naff. Even just hitting the Paige Turner before throwing Sasha out would have made more sense and then Charlotte could have thrown Paige out. That would have worked much better.

Now apparently, this match was longer in some broadcasts than this particular video and there was also a segment with the BFFs and Alexa Bliss. Sadly, those videos are currently unavailable online yet hopefully they weren’t cut from the majority of edits and this upload represents the minority. In addition to those segments, Natalya was also involved in an argument with her man Tyson Kidd yet a video of that wasn’t available either. Friday the 13th is well and truly upon us!

We do have video of Natalya reacting to Tyson’s disgruntled reaction to his loss to Adrian Neville, though:

That’s all from me this week recapping NXT. I’m loving the fact we have a heel champion for the first time ever and I’m really intrigued to see how the BFF dissension continues to play out on TV. Let’s just make sure we don’t forget Alexa Bliss, WWE!

And with that, stay tuned, Jack will be back!

Impact Write-Up (June 12th, 2014): Gail Earns a Slammiversary Title Shot

0

Greetings, Impact fans! Chris here for a very special edition of the Impact Write-Up. It’s the final stop on the road to Slammiversary this Sunday, and a new number one contender for Angelina Love‘s Knockouts Championship as Gail Kim takes on Madison Rayne and BRITTTTTTANYYYY! Plus, a familiar face returns in a very interesting segment. Let’s fire up the Dixietrain and ride down to Orlando for Impact!

First up, Rebel makes a appearance with The Menagerie as Knux takes on everyone’s favorite clown fearing bro, Robbie E. Notice Rebel’s mid-match splits. Check out the video below:

Next we cut backstage to Rockstar Spud (who stole my gimmick) & EC3 (who stole my heart) as they are talking about the surprise they have in store for Bully Ray. Apparently the surprise is the returning Brooke! Sidebar: I was just about to mention how long it’s been since I’ve gotten to talk in the write-up about Brooke on TV and then I realized I have never been able to, until now. Which is appropriate because… well, we’ll get to that later!

Anyways, ECII and Spud make their way to the ring and call out Brooke (who has a new entrance video, finally!) ECII questions Brooke about her relationship with Bully and then that slimy little gimmick-stealer Rockstar Spuds pulls out THE RESULTS! The results of what, you ask? THE DNA DOESN’T NOT LIE states Rockstar Spud! Spud states that Bully Ray is the father! Brooke states that she is OBVIOUSLY not pregnant. ECIII starts to intimidate Brooke and that brings Bully Ray to the ring to run them off! Bully calls Brooke an awesome former girlfriend and they hug in a nice warm and fuzzy moment. I wasn’t expecting to see Brooke be in a segment with Bully Ray ever again, But I thought this segment put a nice bow on the whole Bully & Brooke relationship that dominated their programming for a good portion of the last year. I do have to note, however that it was a little confusing that Bully and Brooke were being so nice to each other considering that they were basically threatening each other the last time they were in a segment together back in December. It’s wrestling and those things are forgotten sometimes and personally I thought it was great to see Brooke in any capacity (especially with ECIII!), so well done, TNA.

Next up, Madison Rayne is interviewed backstage. She says that she’s not focusing on the situation with Brittany and is focused on winning the upcoming match and regaining her title. And that leads us to the notice that the match is up next!

All three ladies make their entrance and Brittany is very happily cheering on during Madison’s entrance. Gail quickly tries to roll up Madison but Brittany interrupts the count. Brittany is attempting to double team Gail with Madison but it backfires as Gail nails a double dropkick and then sends both Madison & Brittany to the outside! The music of The Beautiful People hit and Angelina & Velvet taunt Gail from the ramp as we head to a commercial break!
Back from the break and Angelina & Velvet have joined the commentary booth as the action is going fast & furious in the ring! Gail sends Brittany out of the ring & the former BFFs, Madison & Gail start going at it. Brittany breaks up yet another pinfall attempt and Gail locks her in a Koji-clutch style submission and then Madison locks in a armbar whilst Brittany is in Gail’s hold! Gail has to let go of Brittany to fight out of Madison’s hold and is able to do so. Madison sets Gail on the top rope and Madison & Brittany nail a double superplex on Gail Kim! Ouch! Madison gets angry as Brittany and nails her with a forearm right in the face! Brittany gets revenge by sending Madison out of the ring shouting ” You made me do it!”. Gail Kim then locks Brittany in her devastating ring-post Figure Four as The BP’s make their way ringside and pull Madison back to the floor. Velvet tries to spray Madison but nails Brittany but mistake! Gail is able to nail Eat Defeat and become the number one contender to the Knockout’s championship!

Thoughts: I really enjoyed the triple threat dynamic as it’s rare that you see that type of match in the Knockouts Division. The three competitors mixed really well together and I liked how the situation between Madison & Brittany was showcased in the match. We see more and more aggression from Brittany every week and this week was no exception as she lashed out towards Madison, hitting her and then shouting ” You made me do it!”. I have to wonder if we’ll see more of a violent side from Brittany in recent weeks. Speaking of Brittany, I thought it was VERY interesting how TBP were cheering on Brittany and then attempted to help her because Angelina had easily defeated her a few weeks ago. It kinda makes me sigh how TNA continues to make Brittany look weak doing things like that. I certainly hope that’s something that changes in coming weeks.
I don’t think anyone was surprised when Gail Kim walked away with the victory, but I am definitely looking forward to seeing two of the most influential Knockouts ever facing off at Slammiversary, it’s sure to be off the charts.

One last note: this will be my final week writing the Impact Write-Up. When I started with this site over a year ago I never saw myself in the role of a writer, so the last six months has been a absolutely awesome experience. If you listen to DD Weekly you’ll know that I have quite often cracked a joke about Impact. But in reality, this has been a amazing opportunity for me to express my thoughts and feeling over the Knockouts division. I wish nothing but the best to ALL of the girls in TNA, I hope they continue to show the world what Woman’s Wrestlers can do if given the time and opportunity. The lovely and beautiful Eleri will take back her rightfully throne as far as TNA goes here on Diva Dirt starting with Slammiversary this Sunday. It’s been a thrill to cover Impact for you guys here every week. I hope you’ve enjoyed my weak attempts at witty humor using reactionary GIFs. But now, I have to go take my dream job as Dixie Carter’s personal assistant away from Rockstar Spud… especially after that stunt this week with my girl Brooke!

Until we meet again, choo choo’, darlins!

Cameron Confirmed for ‘WWE 2K15’

WWE 2K15 news continues to emerge from E3, this time confirming a third Diva for the game’s roster: Cameron.

According to video game blog Polygon, Cameron will make her playable character debut in an improved character model. The article detailed the changes, saying:

Little showed me Cameron, one of the Divas and a star of their reality show. Cameron was based on a more generic female body type in WWE 2K14; her curves are more accurate in the latest modeling.

Cameron joins previously announced Divas AJ Lee and Naomi.

Who do you think will be confirmed for the game next?

Your Two Cents: Booking Layla and Summer Rae’s Feud

Your Two Cents is our interactive feature where we ask for the opinions of our Twitter and Facebook followers.

This week, we’re asking this: Where should the feud between Layla and Summer Rae go? We’ve read your responses on our social media pages and picked some of the best submissions to highlight here on the website. As always, you can join the debate by leaving your comments!

  • Ashley Matthew: Have them wrestle a match with Layla winning, then have Fandango dump her for Rosa Mendes (something that could be featured on Total Divas). Then Summer could feud with Paige for the title and Layla could feud with Rosa.
  • Dave Muscarella: They could do a Milk Jug on a Pole Match where you have to grab the milk and pour it on your opponent to win the match. That sounds horrible though, but there isn’t many milk themed matches out there.
  • @DynasticAnthony: Let them continue to fight it out. I’m actually quite enjoying this. Add Dolph Ziggler as Summer’s partner on TV to fuel the fire.
  • @GorJeusZecret: A no DQ, No countout match. The winner will get Fandango and the loser will have to leave WWE. Forever.
  • Issac Gore: Extreme Makeover Match like they did with Beth Phoenix and Michelle McCool.
  • @JuanMRodz: They’re building up this feud really well. It could lead up to a huge match at Summerslam if planned right.
  • @laura7fold: They gotta do something memorable, I feel. Maybe a “Loser Leaves WWE” stipulation or something.
  • @_officialHEEL: If the rumours of Layla going are true, then I will expect their feud carry onto battleground and have a “Loser Leaves WWE” match.
  • Randi Parker: At least two PPV matches. The first, they have been having Summer and Dolph at live events, pair them up on TV, plus this face turn will help when The Marine 4 comes out, and have at either MITB or Battleground Dolph/Summer vs Fandango/Layla, and then at either Battleground or Summerslam, have Layla vs Summer, and that gives us to at least August with that feud, and whatever is gonna go on in the Divas Title picture.
  • Roderick Walker: I say have them settle the feud in a match at Money in the Bank which Layla can win the first match by either DQ or by cheating and then at the next PPV have fandango be the special ref in which Summer finds a way to win the match and then goes on to feud with Paige.
  • Summer Davis: I think they should maybe have an angle where the two women both become lovers of Fandango. Kind of like a open relationship with each other.

And now we turn it over to you…

Give us your two cents! What should happen in the Layla/Summer feud?

Report: Vince McMahon Not High on Paige?

0

According to a report from the Wrestling Observer, Vince McMahon and WWE Executive Vice President of Television Production Kevin Dunn are not high on Divas Champion Paige.

According to the report, selling new talent as top stars to Vince can be tricky, which is why Paige may have the Divas Championship but still very little character development.

Dunn is said to be behind the development of Alicia Fox‘s character and wants to continue progressing that and pushing her.

Should Paige be getting more character development?

WWE Releases Aksana

aksana

Aksana has been released from the WWE.

A WWE.com article revealed the shocking news a short time ago and, as of writing, the Lithuanian is one of nine wrestlers and one referee who have been released.

Aksana was released alongside the likes of Brodus Clay, Evan Bourne, Drew McIntyre and Jinder Mahal.

Aksana debuted in 2010 as part of the third season of NXT. She quickly became involved in a marriage angle with her pro Goldust, only to reveal that she was only going ahead with the nuptials to avoid “deportation”. Following NXT, she went on to be involved in storylines with Theodore Long (who ironically was also released today) & Cesaro. Most recently, Aksana was a part of the Foxsana tag team with Alicia Fox.

Her final appearance will see her face Alicia Fox on this Friday’s SmackDown.

Are you shocked by Aksana’s release?

AJ Lee and Naomi Confirmed for ‘WWE 2K15’

Today at the E3 video game convention in Los Angeles, two Divas were confirmed for WWE 2K15, the next installment of the WWE’s video game series.

AJ Lee and Naomi are among the first seven names announced for the game, according to 2K Sports. They join the likes of Bray Wyatt, Roman Reigns, John Cena, Hulk Hogan and Cesaro.

This will mark the first time that Naomi will be a playable character.

Video: Layla Attacks Summer Rae on Main Event

On last night’s Main Event, Layla delivered the latest blow in her feud with Summer Rae, attacking the Total Divas star during her interview with Renee Young.

In the interview, Summer admitted that Layla got to her by flaunting her relationship with Fandango, saying that she attacked her with milk because she’s a “catty little twat”.

Summer is suddenly attacked by Layla, who pours a box of cat litter on her before emptying a jug of milk and rubbing her face in the mess.

Raw Redux (June 9th, 2014): The Wrath of Milk and Popcorn

0

What’s up guys and gals? Good news… I finally messed up the time of day I sleep again just for you! Therefore this redux will actually be posted early and on the correct day again. I know I’ve been off the past two weeks, but it’s time to get right back on and bring forth the Diva recap of epic proportions.

That’s enough about me though. Let’s get to the real meat and bones (or should I say milk and popcorn) of tonights festivities!~

It was a night of many different food and beverage products taking center stage when it came to our Divas, but what arrived with those items was some fun segments galore. Match wise, we’re back down to one again, and it’s… yet again, Paige vs. Alicia Fox. This time we’ve got Aksana at ringside though, so we’ll have to see if that can be enough to make this one feel unique in their best of 7500 series against each other.

In addition to that, we’ve also got appearances by Lana, Stephanie McMahon, Vickie Guerrero, Layla and Summer Rae so strap in because we’re ready for a pretty bumpy ride and it’s starting right off with my highlight of the night:

We head backstage to see… LAYLA, and she’s speaking! Sound the alarms because I don’t know if we’re still on planet Earth. Ooh, she is trashing the people of Minneapolis to a new debuting makeup lady who I will now call NotJan, and then asks if Summer Rae herself is from the area. I’m kind of ashamed in Layla because she’s supposed to be the company’s goddess of Instagram, therefore she should have known Summer is from North Carolina and has a slight (justified) obsession with Bojangles Fried Chicken. NotJan laughs at Layla’s insult to the people of Minneapolis, which now makes me a fan because we FINALLY have a heel makeup lady! Layla feels they don’t appreciate the fine art of dance and exclaims that Fandango can’t wait to leave, then requesting NotJan (real name, Jackie, but still to be referred to as NotJan) to get her favorite smudge proof lipstick. From there, she begins recalling the tale of the last time she kissed Fandango but can’t finish because Summer Rae is here! And she has fat free milk!

Summer dumps that half-gallon right over Layla’s head, sending the British Bombshell into an array of screams as her entire look for the night is ruined at the hands of our very own Dairy Queen. Summer then shoves her right back onto the makeup table and proceeds to beat her down as if an E! camera crew had followed her right to Layla’s front doorstep! “Get Off My Property” screams Natalya in the background (of my imagination) as Summer drops the table right over a downed Layla and throws powder all over her to get the job done. Layla is left a mess on the floor as Summer walks off like the badass she is. All hail the Dairy Queen of wrestling!

We head to the arena as Paige’s screechy intro blares across the speaker system and out she walks, proudly showing off her title for the world to see. Up next comes Foxy, who displays a new manic titantron! And Aksana! Alicia struts down the ramp and hops into the ring for another match against Paige as the bell sounds and we get underway with a lock up. Fox shoves Paige outside quick and runs outside but accidentally bumps into Aksana. Paige with a slap to Aksana, but this distraction allows Foxy to hit a dropkick to the outside off the ring apron. Back in the ring we go as Alicia applies a headlock and the crowd tries to get behind Paige. Fox with the Northern Lights now for a two count, following it up with a knee to the back and then another headlock. Paige with a quick roll up! Just a two count though as Alicia nails an Aksana approved clothesline for a two count.

Alicia wipes the dust off her hands and hits a delayed tilt-a-whirl backbreaker as Aksana screams on in support of her friend. Another headlock now, but Paige fights out of a sidewalk slam attempt with a nice headscissors counter to send Alicia outside the ring. Fox tries to get back in, as Paige now hits some of her trademark knees. A scream in the face, followed with a series of clotheslines and another scream to get the crowd fired up, as she goes for a dropkick that only garners a two count. Paige with an elbow now as she climbs up top, but Fox slams her off and now Aksana is getting in Paige’s face. Alicia tries to get in Paige’s face, as Paige swings her forward and she collides head first with Aksana. From there, Paige locks in the PTO and gains the victory via submission!

After the match, Aksana tries to comfort Alicia, but Fox is not happy. She takes Aksana down! Now grabbing a bucket of popcorn and some bottles of water from ringside, Alicia starts throwing it around before sliding into the ring. She dumps the water all over Aksana and starts eating popcorn out of nowhere. Fox beats Aksana down and now begins to offer/force feed the yellowy substance right into her Lithuanian mouth. She then comforts her and Aksana looks kinda slightly terrified as the segment comes to a close.

Later on in the show, Layla makes her presence felt again as she manages the team of Sandango (Fandango & Damien Sandow) against the Tag Team Champions, Jimmy and Jey Uso:

Next up, it’s time for the weekly dose of Ravishing Russian, as Lana struts down the entrance ramp like a runway and this time sets her sights on none other than Barack Obama!

Also, check out Stephanie McMahon as she and Triple H deliver an announcement on the future of Daniel Bryan‘s reign as WWE World Heavyweight Champion:

And finally, Stephanie has a confrontation with none other than Vickie Guerrero later on in the show as well. Unfortunately, I can’t find video of it!

The Good:

Layla/Summer Rae – Is WWE reading these reduxes? I mean I kind of had oddball thoughts when the random things I would mention in Adam Rose’s entrance were getting fixed up, but now I’m starting to really get suspicious because the very final sentence of what I wrote last week was about how a backstage segment involving Summer and Layla should happen, claiming it would only take up 1-2 minutes of a three hour show… and now we get just that. Plus as I predicted, I loved it! A segment like this in all its 59 second glory accomplishes more than a match 85% of the time when it comes to the Divas, and I lived for the catfight they had. The crowd ate every second of it up and it made Summer Rae come off looking like such a badass! This definitely makes up for not getting anything last week as far as I’m concerned, and I need it to continue on for a little bit. To be honest I still don’t know what disposition Summer is… and I actually kind of love it that way. She doesn’t need to turn into a smiley babyface for this feud to work because fans love seeing two Divas just beat the crap out of each other if there’s a real story behind it. Segments like these do wonders to further their feud, and look! Just like I said last week, it only took one minute out of a three hour show. You got this WWE! Feed us more and bring all the dairy products you want.

Lana – I can’t handle Lana anymore… and I mean that is the greatest possible way. Her promo tonight killed me to no end, and even though I’ll never be able to get behind Rusev, I love that WWE is putting so much emphasis and promotion into an act that a Diva is in. The crowds destroy Lana when she has a mic. She basically has them in the palm of her hand every week, and it doesn’t matter what hour of the show she gets put in… she can always rile them up. The Obama stuff tonight was hilarious in terms of how she delivered it and tried to turn on something that’s actually current. She is constantly something I look forward to every week, and as sad as I am that they didn’t have Adam Rose on this week, I’m glad they’re at least looking to be moving forward when it comes to her promos. Rusev’s squash matches on the other hand are a different story when it comes to moving forward, but as far as I’m concerned, this is all about Lana and what she does every week is actually progressing each time we see her.

Stephanie McMahon – I don’t really have much to say about Stephanie this week since it was just a regular promo with Triple H, but as always, she delivers. And bonus points for the dig at Brie Bella now having quit for no reason whatsoever.

The Somewhat Good:

Stephanie/Vickie – I didn’t mind this and it was great to see Vickie Guerrero back on TV after what feels (to me at least) like forever, but nothing really happened in it that lead to anything so I’m just slotting it in the middle section for now. If it leads to anything continuous between those two, I’d definitely start charting their segments higher… but for now, it was just sort of there but in a good way because I love whenever Stephanie gets to play off of another woman and I also love seeing Vickie Guerrero in any capacity.

The Not-So Good:

Paige vs. Alicia – I couldn’t really get as into this match as their past ones. I don’t know, I just kind of have the mentality if you’re going to give us a match for what kind of feels like the 65th time in two months, something special has to go down to make us interested in seeing it again. No matter how good two girls are, I can honestly only see them face off so many times before I become uninterested if it just feels like I’m seeing the same match every time. Alicia and Paige were so good at differentiating each of their bouts, but it feels like the more spotlight they get, the more they start to feel the same and sort of rely more on Fox’s meltdowns to stand out. It also never helps when they get slotted in the third hour and have to perform in front of a dead crowd, but at this point I’m used to that so I kind of tune them out and just try to focus on the action.

I also still can’t get into the way (I’m assuming) they’re making Paige stick to the same few moves and win matches after being beat down for a majority either because it just feels so weird to me. It’s like they can’t decide which way to market her, whether they want her to portray this new rookie or an esteemed veteran who just got to WWE after years of training. Those video packages show she can do so much more and they continue to mention her growing up as a wrestler, but then when they put her in action it’s like they want us to think she’s an unexperienced rookie who has to be dominated by the other Divas for 3/4 of a match. I honestly wish they’d just let her be this badass Anti-Diva we sort of saw in NXT, but turned up even more because I feel like THAT’S what crowds want to see. Paige was touted as the developmental Diva who could help change the game of the main roster Women’s Division, and her debut really did solidify that “Wow, they really are giving her the ball to run with” feeling we had all feared they wouldn’t do. But since then, it seems like more and more every week they’ve just lost all sense of what to do with her. Nothing is really different about her anymore except for the things that she herself brings to the table like her look and screams, and it stinks but it’s up to them to put the effort into her that they did on her debut and I just don’t see it being done.

Alicia’s Meltdown – Sigh, it pains me to put this here but it honestly has nothing to do with the segments themselves at all. It’s more the fact that we seem to be stuck in them accomplishing the same thing every week, and that’s nothing. The segments were gold at the start because they were building her up to a title match with Paige, and I’m 100% happy they’re still being continued afterwards and Alicia is still a focus in the division. But what I’m not really digging is how they just seem to be the same thing time and time again now. It’s almost like WWE finds something that works and gets a lot of positive feedback so they think they have to repeat it for the next ten weeks instead of move it forward and give it some storyline progression.

Alicia doesn’t need to lose to Paige again just to have a meltdown. Hell, put her and Aksana in a feud with Nikki Bella and let Paige feud with someone else for a month or two. They are getting so much better at finding side roles for a lot of the Divas and I’m extremely grateful for that, but there’s even more we can expand on to capitalize on everyone’s strengths. Paige could feud with Cameron and allow Naomi to be sort of this centerpiece between them who doesn’t know which to side with, leading to a heel turn and big feud over the title that could have a legitimate storyline considering how close Naomi got to that being her Championship before Paige debuted. Summer and Layla can continue to feud, then you could even have Fox and Aksana opposite Nikki Bella. Three feuds is asking quite a lot I know, but this also could go into why I forever miss the brand split although I’ll save that for another day.

Ultimately, we’re going in a good direction but I feel like we could be in a great one if we just had a few tweaks. Next week I’d really like to see a multi-Diva tag (which I know is horrible to wish) between maybe Paige, Nikki, Naomi & Cameron against Alicia, Aksana, Rosa and Layla. With Naomi/Cameron and Paige not exactly seeing eye to eye, as well as Alicia and Aksana, it’d be so interesting to watch how the teams gel together. Plus it’d get Nikki on TV to keep the Brie storyline focused on, Rosa on TV a little more heading into Total Divas return down the road, and we could even have Summer Rae run out and catfight with Layla at ringside to progress that. One match could accomplish so much and provide a lot of unique, fun scenarios that could play out… but as always, we’ll have to see what happens. Fingers crossed!

From the Vault: SmackDown – April 15th, 2004

Hello all! In this week’s From the Vault I’m taking you back to good old 2004 and to an evening of pure terror in the life of Torrie Wilson.

Things kicked off on this particular episode of Smackdown with then WWE champion, Eddie Guerrero (R.I.P – you are forever missed) talking smack about then Smackdown General Manager, Kurt Angle. Phew, the things these men used to get up to! It all boiled down to a stipulation match between Eddie and the Big Show (ugh). Said stipulation entailed that if the Big Show was to lose to Eddie later on in the night, then he would be forced to quit.

Sadly (for him, not me. Ugh.) Show is a man of his word, and so when he inevitably lost to the champ, he had to do the walk of shame through the back and head on out of there.

This is where Torrie comes in. She was in the make up chair, having a little giggle with the make up artist as all women like to do when Big Show happened to be walking past. He was convinced that Torrie was laughing at him, and even though Torrie was adamant she wasn’t – and hey, I believer her – Big Show decided to take it upon himself to terrorize her.

Throughout the night, we cut backstage to where Torrie was keeping her distance. She just wanted to get out of there, but when she reached her car Big Show caught up to her. He wasted little time in working himself up and, blinded with rage, he destroyed her car! He broke the windows and turned it upside down – he threw it almost across the parking lot. (I remember thinking it was a fake car when I was younger. Now I’m not so sure.)

Sensibly, Torrie got the hell out of there. But he continued to chase her down.

Finally, at the close of the show, an assistant found Kurt Angle backstage and informed him that the Big Show had Torrie trapped up on a ledge, some 20 feet above the ground, and he was threatening to throw her off. Personally I was eating it up but I was only twelve! Kurt Angle dashed to the diva’s rescue.

Torrie begs Big Show to let her go but he doesn’t budge. Selflessly, Kurt climbs to the ledge and manages to waver Torrie’s safety, but it doesn’t work out too well for him. In helping Torrie escape Show’s clutches, Kurt instead becomes the subject of Show’s violent temper, and the GM finds himself unceremoniously choke-slammed off the ledge.

I know this was a pretty short piece to choose from the Vault, but I wanted to do something for Torrie and this remains in my mind as one of her better showings. She was convincingly terrified and you were really worried about her! At least I was. It was also nice to have a diva featured all night long, in numerous segments, and to have her included in a main event storyline.

Check back next week and, if you like, hit the comments for suggestions of what and who you want to see in future From the Vault pieces, and if I like ’em, I’ll write ’em.

Ciao for now, guys! x

SmackDown Redux (June 6th, 2014): The Fox Flips… Again

Hello guys, and welcome to this week’s edition of the SmackDown Redux! This week, the highly unstable Alicia Fox takes on the First Lady of the Hart Dynasty in Natalya. What will happen when these two Divas clash yet again? Check out the match below:

After a recap of her NXT Takeover match against Charlotte, we see Natalya already in the ring. Alicia is out next and our match is underway.

The Divas lock up and Nattie gets the upper hand with a headlock takeover,  which Alicia counters with a headscissors. Natalya kicks out and their stare each other down in a stalemate. They lock up once again and Nattie takes down with a flurry of offense, causing Alicia to roll to the outside for a time out/temper tantrum.

Alicia goes to get back in the ring, but when Natalya approaches her she starts hissing like a rabid cat, much to my delight. Unfortunately for Alicia’s hissing gets her two slaps to the face and Nattie rolls her up for a nearfall. Now with the advantage, Nattie gets a bit flashy with a neckspring, but Alicia has her scouted and chokes her out over the bottom rope, prompting the official to intervene.

Alicia hits a Northern Lights suplex for a nearfall, but crashes and burn on a somersault leg drop, when Natalya rolls out of the way. Nattie tries to take advantage of the situation, going for the Sharpshooter, but Alicia kicks her right in the face. Alicia goes to finish off her opponent with her signature tilt-a-whirl backbreaker, but Natalya counters and picks up the win.

Post-match, Alicia flips out once again, and even threatened poor Lillian Garcia, before retreating backstage.

Thoughts: Another great match between Alicia and Natalya, even though it was a bit on the short side. It’s great to see WWE sticking with the ‘Crazy as a Fox’ angle with Alicia. She’s spent so many years just being a secondary competitor in the division, but she’s more than prove her worth in the ring, so it’s great to see WWE actually put some effort into her character. I’d love to see her continue to feud with Paige, but I don’t see that happening, to be honest. In any case, I can see Alicia being a much more prominent figure in the Divas Division, if WWE uses her well.

Well, that’s all for this week guys! Until next time… “DID YOU RING THE BELL?!?!?!?!”
