The current NWA World Women’s Champion may have found herself in WWE by now. Thunder Rosa had a tryout to be a referee in WWE last year that she chose to pass up. Rosa most recently was seen at AEW’s All Out over this past weekend as she faced Hikaru Shida for the AEW Women’s World Title. Shida retained.
Rose spoke recently with Fightful and had the following to say about her tryout that she skipped for a referee in WWE.
“I was supposed to go, last September, for a referee try out,” Rosa told Fightful. “That was like a week before I signed my contract for MMA. That was in WWE. Dorian, the hurricane, happened and my things kept getting canceled, getting canceled and then I was getting too close for me to sign my contract for my fight and I was already training. I had three months of training. I was like, ‘I can’t wait.’ One week’s too long for me not to train. I just sent them an e-mail saying, ‘Thanks for the opportunity, hopefully, we can work something out in the future,’ and I left it as that. That happened my career skyrocketed ‘cause we made it happen. But, yeah, man. It’s insane. But, other than that, I never got any e-mails or interest or nothing,” Rosa stated.
Rosa has been keeping herself busy as of late. She has her all-female promotion Mission Pro Wrestling in Central Texas. The promotion’s Hell Hath No Fury event will take place later on in the month.
Rosa wouldn’t have been the only wrestler turned referee if she would have received the position with WWE. Aja Smith (formerly-Perera) has wrestled since 2013 before becoming the first African American female referee for the company earlier this year.
