Summer Rae – NXT Women’s Championship
Summer Rae was often overlooked on the main roster as a singles in-ring competitor while being held in positions of a valet to those such as Fandango and Rusev. She was also in a brief tag team with Layla known as The Slayers. In NXT, despite not being elevated as she should have been, she was put in the role of a leader. If at any point in her career she would have woman a championship it would have been on the black and gold brand.
In its early starts, Summer Rae was teamed with Sasha Banks known as the BFFs. Later adding Charlotte, there was so much potential for this stable and for Rae to break out as a champion. It didn’t last nearly as long as it should have and Rae would feel as though she made both Banks and Charlotte (two of the biggest names in wrestling today). In a tournament to determine the inaugural NXT Women’s Champion, Rae would defeat Banks before being eliminated in the semi finals.
Dakota Kai – NXT Women’s Championship
Dakota Kai should have stood atop of the NXT women’s division before being released by WWE. She has since returned and is now a prominent asset to the Monday Night Raw brand as a member of the Damage CTRL stable. However, Kai is one of those women who put in the work and would continue to put other women over.
The moment she should have taken the title was against her former best friend and tag team partner Raquel Gonzalez at TakeOver 36. She would get one more shot at the title which was against Mandy Rose in April.
Piper Niven – NXT UK Women’s Championship
The NXT UK Women’s Title lineage is now ended since it has been unified with the NXT Women’s Title. However, Piper Niven is one woman who absolutely should have won this gold. Being with NXT UK since its start, Niven had a few shots at the gold but none felt as right as her last fight with Kay Lee Ray in a Falls Count Anywhere match.
NXT UK was the brand that was hit the hardest by the pandemic and the return of the brand had KLR still holding onto the championship. This brutal encounter between the two Scottish talents should have been the victory for Niven. Especially since this was the second match they had for the title following the return of the brand.
Alicia Fox – Raw Women’s Championship
Alicia Fox is the first and only Black woman to win the Divas Championship. It was a short reign and unfortunately, she never won gold again in WWE…but should have.
Both her in-ring and character work grew leaps and bounds since she captured the Divas Title. She should have had at the very least one run as Raw Women’s Champion and never even received that opportunity as she never had a title shot.
If there was a time that she should have springboarded off of the momentum given was when she defeated Bayley and Sasha Banks in a Triple Threat to become captain of the Raw women’s team at Survivor Series in 2017. The Raw women’s team would win and Fox should have taken that gloating to a championship opportunity and victory.
Mickie James – Raw Women’s Championship
The last one on this Part One list needs the least amount of explanation and that is the legend – Mickie James. Already a five-time WWE Women’s Champion and one-time Divas Champion before returning to WWE in late 2016 it is baffling that she never won the Raw (or SmackDown) Women’s Championship. INf act, she rarely was given the opportunity.
The closest she came was in a feud with Alexa Bliss which James should have won. She had faced Bliss at both the TLC pay-per-view and in the main event of Raw.
