Results: Carmella retains the SmackDown Women’s Championship

Tonight at Extreme Rules, Carmella successfully retained the SmackDown Women’s Championship against Asuka.

As per the stipulation to this match, James Ellsworth was suspended above the ring during the match in a Shark Cage.

Asuka started the match with knee strikes and went for a body slam but Carmella countered. She then signaled Ellsworth to pass along a chain but Askua spotted this before it could be used. After booting Asuka in the midsection and the back, Carmella tried to retrieve the chain but the referee caught this and removed it from the match.

Meanwhile, Ellsworth attempted another shortcut when he passed Carmella some hairspray but Asuka strikes Carmella with back fists before it could be used. Asuka continued to take Carmella down with a dropkick and running hip attack. The challenger then locked in the Asuka Lock but Carmella quickly reached to the ropes to break the hold. Carmella slipped to the outside but Asuka chased after her, delivering a suplex to Carmella and tossing her into the barricade.

Meanwhile, Ellsworth was able to escape from his Shark Cage but hung upside from it. This brought Asuka to re-enter the ring to begin kicking and striking him like a punching bag. Officials then tried to restore some order by ordering the Shark Cage to come down to place Ellsworth back in it but Asuka chased them away.

The Emperess of Tomorrow continued to her attack on Ellsworth but from behind, Carmella shoved Asuka face first to the Shark Cage and pinned the challenger to retain the SmackDown Women’s Title.

Post-match, Asuka unleashed her frustration on Ellsworth with a series of attacks.
