Asuka to join first-ever women’s TLC match for SmackDown Women’s Title

Earlier tonight, we saw the SmackDown Live return of Becky “The Man” Lynch. In her return, she states that she is tired of watching from the sidelines and that “The Man” is putting herself back in the game, wasting no time in calling out Charlotte Flair.

This led to a war of words between The Queen and The Man. Becky was told she was riding Charlotte’s coattails by high-jacking the phrase from her father, Ric Flair. Lynch tells Ronda that she’ll be at TLC: Tables, Ladders, and Chairs, and don’t forget she was the one “born ready”. Charlotte emphatically responded to Becky, stating that she didn’t fight for her, but fought for herself, and she would fight Becky, right now.

Later in the evening, it was announced that Becky Lynch would face Charlotte Flair in a tables, ladders, and chairs match at TLC, making it the first TLC women’s match in WWE history.

Prior to this, the only woman ever involved in a TLC match was Lita at Wrestlemania X-Seven, when she was the valet for the Hardy Boyz. However, some of the other women on the roster had something to say, and out came Mandy Rose, who took issue with the claim that Charlotte carried the division, and pointed out, rightfully so, that any of the women could have done what Charlotte did to Ronda. Rose also said any one of the women who were flanking her (The IIconics, Zelina Vega and Sonya Deville) deserve a title shot. Rose continued by calling out Paige for granting opportunities to PCB, while she ditched Absolution. Nice touch, Mandy.

Out comes Naomi, Asuka, Carmella and Lana. Naomi agrees with Lana, points out that her desire shouldn’t be questioned, and that any of them could be champion. After getting Becky riled up, Paige announces a battle royal, with the winner being added to the championship match at TLC.

After it was hyped all night as the main event of SmackDown, we saw Lana and Zelina touch on their feud, Asuka eliminated Carmella, IIconics eliminated close together, and Absolution work together, which allowed Naomi to be eliminated, after she eliminated Mandy Rose. The final two were Asuka, and surprisingly, Sonya Deville.

Mandy Rose tried to get involved, but Asuka would not be denied. Asuka eliminated Deville for the win, cementing her position in the first-ever women’s tables, ladders, and chairs match for the SmackDown Women’s Championship.

Congrats are given to Asuka. Naomi, as we know, is a favorite, but there was massive hope from fans that Asuka would win.

WWE can easily weave in the narrative of Asuka’s need to prove herself, and get this win, so she can take back her loss from Charlotte at WrestleMania.

Becky’s story is seen by some as an underdog story of sorts. She fought, overcame adversity, and fought some more, and will likely win because she’s that damn good.

Charlotte can show her new ruthless streak, being what will get her back to the top where she feels she belongs. Afterall, she was “born ready”.

Becky had a little something to say about Asuka’s win, while also taking another shot at Charlotte Flair.
