Your Two Cents: Is Bringing Back Former Divas a Good Idea?

Your Two Cents is our interactive feature where we ask for the opinions of our Twitter and Facebook followers.

This week, we’re asking this: Do you think the WWE bringing back former Divas would be a good or bad idea? We’ve read your responses on our social media pages and picked some of the best submissions to highlight here on the website. As always, you can join the debate by leaving your comments!

  • @BorisGlisic: I think it is, but only if girls didn’t accomplish much in their first run so they are back to fix that.
  • @CryssyJ824: I’d rather they get rid of a lot of what they have and bring back old or get new.
  • Israel Espinoza: I don’t think so; it’s nice to see Divas for nostalgia purposes, but we have incredibly talented girls on the roster who aren’t featured as it as well as girls waiting in the wings of NXT for their chance. If the WWE needs to bring back girls for their experience, then they need to look at their current veterans and figure out why they’re not performing or figure out why creative is incapable of creating a compelling storyline with the 14 girls they already have.
  • @JosephAMT: I would like seeing Divas like Jillian Hall, Beth Phoenix and Melina. But leave golden era Divas for one-off appearances. Don’t ruin their legacy.
  • Joseph Roberson: Yes, as long as they have a plan for them. I want any returning Diva to expand on her character. I don’t want them to come back and do the same thing, nor do I want them to come back and be a seat-filler in the division.
  • @lewdowd: It’s a good idea. Some of the dream matches will now happen if it’s true that the likes of Maryse and Eve Torres are actually returning.
  • @lkiroh: Not the right time. We have a brand new champ and multiple feuds to exploit. Plus the newest Divas still need some spotlight.
  • @nWO_Girl: Why would they do that? Most retired from injury, plus none of the ones now would keep up with the former ones anyways.
  • Oliver Aston: I would say is a good idea as it would certainly snap a whip on the Divas division, but at the same time, WWE has a tendency to ruin everything. Remember when Gail Kim returned back in 2009 and they buried her under with the new talent at the time?
  • @pikatrick: Depends on who comes back. We could witness an awesome comeback. Or see them get buried by the new girls (ie, Sable vs. Torrie Wilson).
  • R.d. Jackson: Definitely a good idea, as it not only adds much needed star power to a Divas division full of relatively unknown faces, but working with veterans like Mickie James, Victoria and Lita will only lead to overall improvement.
  • @supportingeve: Yes, depending on who. The Divas roster now needs help and bringing divas such as Eve, Mickie or Michelle McCool could help put over talent.
  • Russ Sommer: Anything that brings attention to the Divas division makes me happy. I just wish they had more air time and better story support. TNA still does it better in my opinion.
  • Samuel C. Garner: I don’t think it’s a good idea. A large portion of fans are already stuck on Trish Stratus and Lita as it is, and as a result, Divas that I consider to be better workers than those two are being held back by a glass ceiling created by Trish and Lita nostalgia. What the division needs is for WWE to take its female talents seriously, and allow them to do the things that Trish and Lita did in the past to get themselves over. If you include NXT, the Divas division now is better than it has ever been, and the fact that WWE is allowing the casual fan to keep this “Divas now can’t wrestle and are purely eye candy” way of thinking instead of pushing them as stars is downright unacceptable.
  • @sxshabanks: No. WWE needs to build up their current Divas roster right now. We don’t need past Divas coming back to steal the spotlight.
  • Tom Fox: I don’t like the idea of bringing old talent back. They had their time when they were in the company so bringing them back makes the current crop of Divas feel like they aren’t living up to the returning Divas’ potential. It also takes the spot up for a Diva that could potentially become the next top female in the company. Per example, bringing Maryse would take up the spot for a Diva that could simply slot into that role such as Summer Rae or Cameron. Unless they are returning as a backstage agent or something that doesn’t involve being on TV, then I’m all for it.
  • Yasmin Walid: It will be a good idea if those former Divas receive quality storylines. Or else, it will be the same old, same old issues. In fact, if WWE decided to focus more on the former divas it won’t help the career of these new Divas either.

And now we turn it over to you…

Give us your two cents! Would bringing back former Divas be a good idea?
