Every hour until the clock strikes midnight (Eastern time) and we usher in 2015, Diva Dirt will highlight – in no particular order – the women who made an impact in 2014.
Kay Lee Ray
2014 was one of Kay Lee Ray’s best years so far, the Scottish star continuing to be a standard-bearer not only on the British independent circuit but absolutely everywhere she goes. This year saw her make a number of trips into mainland Europe as well as get her big breakthrough across the Atlantic, becoming a regular fixture of SHIMMER and creating some dream match-ups, including big victories over Kimber Lee and Candice LeRae at the most recent tapings in October. That wasn’t all for her US outings, as she also made her first appearances for SHINE and AIW Girls Night Out, quickly winning over the Americans fans much like her compatriot Nikki Storm did last year (and continues to do so now).
Closer to home, the Glaswegian has had a clean sweep of a year as Scottish Women’s Champion, the flagship title of her hometown promotion Fierce Females, of which she is still the inaugural champion and is verging on two years with the belt. But with all this success, the year ended in a somewhat bittersweet fashion for her, as she put on a series of spectacular career-defining performances to advance to the final three of TNA British Boot Camp, only to be told by Dixie Carter that she might not be ready to be a TNA Knockout yet.
Nevertheless, Boot Camp was an incredible experience of self-exposure, and her exit in the final did nothing to change the minds of the hordes of fans – not just in Britain, but across the world – who continue to be amazed by the high-risk offense and sheer enthusiasm this flame-haired Scot delivers every time she steps in the ring. Still only 22 years old, it feels like she’s been around forever already, and with the career she has under her belt already I absolutely cannot wait to see what she has in store for us in 2015.
Come back at the top of every hour to see who else has been crowned one of 2014’s Women of the Year.
