Women of Honor Championship match announced for Final Battle

Ring of Honor has their upcoming yearly event, Final Battle, that will take place in just a few weeks, on December 14th, at Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City. The women’s match that has been announced for this card is a four-corner survival match for the Women of Honor Championship.

Per ROH wrestling, the competitors for this match have been announced. Current and inaugural Champion Sumie Sakai will be defending her title against Madison Rayne, Karen Q, and the last to qualify, Kelly Klein.

This match has huge implications, as just one year ago at this same event, it was announced that in 2018, fans would experience a tournament for the first-ever Women of Honor Champion. Sakai went on to win this tournament by defeating Klein in the final match. Sakai has reigned over the division since she won the tournament, and will face her biggest challenge yet against the three women in this match.

Rayne is a 13-year-old veteran to the wrestling industry, and she is a former five-time Impact Knockouts Champion. Despite wrestling for the Ring of Honor promotion in the past, this past Sept., she signed a one-year deal with the company. She also competed in the WWE’s Mae Young Classic II this year, where she was eliminated in the first round by Mercedes Martinez. Rayne’s commitment to the division could be cemented with a victory to end the year on top.

Karen Q has been in the promotion since last year. Her biggest claim to fame is defeating Klein’s undefeated streak earlier this year. Just as Rayne participated in the Mae Young Classic II, as did Karen Q. She was defeated by Xia Li in the first round.

Klein is considered a veteran in WOH. She has been on the roster since 2015. Up until the “Pretty Badass” encountered Karen Q, she was undefeated and came within moments of winning the title at the initial tournament. She has defeated numerous big name opponents such as Mandy Leon, Candice LeRae, and Deonna Purrazzo. Coming up short with the title has only fueled her going into this match.

Sakai has the most to lose in this match. Will she end the year still as champion, or are the odds stacked against her?
