WWE is in India this week for a four-day-long tryout that the company announced this past December. WWE trainers and NXT UK superstar Jinny will be in attendance to evaluate the athletes. There are 80 participants scheduled to tryout, 17 being women.
Some of the women who will be at the tryout are MMA fighter Sanjana George, bodybuilder Ankita Singh, and pro wrestler Pooja Mutneja.
This is a huge step forward for WWE in their efforts to find the best athletes the globe has to offer. Kavita Devi was the first Indian female to ever be signed to WWE. She hopes the tryouts will bring more Indian athletes to the ring.
She was recently interviewed by Times Now News, and said the tryout in India is groundbreaking. “Yes, definitely, this will be a game-changer. We can even see examples of that as several boys and girls are coming out and participating in it. This is just the first time it has happened, and still, the response has been great. In the coming period, I am sure that more wrestlers are going to take part in it.”
There are plans for WWE to open a Performance Center in India in the near future. WWE truly is on their way to becoming a global empire. We will keep you posted with anymore news about this week’s tryouts.
