Kay Lee Ray wins a 12-woman Battle Royal in the main event of NXT UK this week to become No. 1 contender for Toni Storms “shiny, shiny.” This was the first-ever women’s battle royal for the NXT UK brand.
The beginning of the match saw dominance from Jazzy Gabert and Jinny. The team was able to eliminate a few competitors to start thinning out the competition. Unfortunately for them, however, they failed to capitalize on their prior eliminations as the underdog Xia Brookside eliminated both women.
The final three came down to Rhea Ripley, Piper Niven, and Brookside, or so we thought. Ripley and Niven traded blows in the middle of the ring. They both spilled out onto the ring apron and Brookside took advantage. She hit a running dropkick on Ripley who pulled down Niven as well eliminating them both. Brookside thought she won and started celebrated but the bell was not ringing to signal the end of the match.
Kay Lee Ray went through the middle ropes earlier in the match and therefore was never eliminated. She hit a clothesline on Brookside and subsequently eliminated her winning the match.
She has won a future title opportunity for the NXT UK Women’s Championship.
