Reason why Nikki Cross was added to the SmackDown title match

Update: Alexa Bliss posted on her Instagram that she had her hair touched up heading into her match for Sunday. It appears that she may be over her illness and will be present at Extreme Rules.

The SmackDown Women’s Champion Bayley has her work cut out for her this Sunday at the Extreme Rules pay-per-view. Her match against Alexa Bliss has now turned into a 2-On-1 Handicap match involving Nikki Cross.

According to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer, Cross was added to the match due to Bliss being out due to an illness. This news comes as no surprise as Bliss has been posting tweets about being sick since last week.

Meltzer is notating that Cross wasn’t originally scheduled to be in the match. She also missed both RAW and SmackDown this week despite being present on both shows for weeks.

As of now, Bliss is still scheduled to be a part of the match on Sunday. Adding Cross to the match seems to be more of a safety net just in case Bliss isn’t back to full health. This way the match could just revert back to a one-on-one match if need be.
