Sanatana Garrett made her long-awaited debut as an official NXT superstar, last night.
Garrett took on Reina Gonzalez in a losing effort dark match in front of her home town crowd at Full Sail University.
Garrett has appeared on NXT many times throughout the years. She faced off against Charlotte way back in 2013. She has also fought Asuka, Emma, and Billie Kay in 2016. Most notably Garrett took part in the inaugural Mae Young Classic in 2017, losing to Piper Niven in the first round.
Many of the participants in the tournament went on to developmental deals, such as Rhea Ripley, Toni Storm, Bianca Belair, and Shayna Baszler. Surprisingly at that time, Santana Garrett’s name was not on the list. Her look, in-ring style, and Wonder-Woman character seemed tailor-made for WWE, yet she remained a free-agent.
Earlier this year, Garrett took to her Instagram to ask her fans “where next for Santana Garrett?” She went on to explain that the passing of her father had affected her greatly and she had taken some time away from wrestling. After her hiatus and focusing on herself and her career she was now “ready to commit”
In August, it was announced that Garrett had made that commitment and signed a WWE developmental deal.
A veteran of the independent scene, Santana has worked in a starring role all over the world and we can’t wait to see what she brings to NXT on the big stage.
