Total Divas reveals Sonya Deville had her match cut from WrestleMania 35

In this week’s episode of Total Divas, a lot was revealed surrounding the landscape of what led to the women’s main event at WrestleMania 35. During the episode, Sonya Deville discussed having an LGBTQ storyline with her Fire & Desire tag team partner, Mandy Rose. This was scrapped as was what appears to be her match with Asuka. Deville and Asuka were seen backstage talking to producer Sarah Stock as she delivered the bad news to them.

Deville mentioned to Stock that she and Rose were just in the Elimination Chamber making it to the final two teams with Sasha Banks and Bayley for the Women’s Tag Team Championships. Now there is no title match against Asuka and both her and Rose aren’t even in the Women’s Tag Team Championship match.

With this transpiring, this is why Charlotte Flair shockingly defeated Asuka for the SmackDown Women’s Championship just two weeks before WrestleMania. This led to Flair vs. Becky Lynch vs. Ronda Rousey in a Winner Takes All match for both the SmackDown and RAW Women’s Championships. Asuka and Deville, as a result, were placed in the Women’s Battle Royal match that Carmella ended up winning.

Dave Meltzer from The Wrestling Observer Newsletter during the time of WrestleMania stated that it was to be Mandy Rose against Asuka at WrestleMania. This is actually what many fans were thinking as Rose had recently lost a match to Asuka for the SmackDown Women’s Title at Fastlane.

Regardless if it was going to be Deville or Rose in that match against Asuka there was clearly supposed to be a separate match for the SmackDown Women’s Title that never came to fruition due to the main event.

What do you think about what was revealed on Total Divas? Do you think it was the right call to have both titles in the main event match? Leave your thoughts in the comment section below.
