Winners & Losers: WrestleMania Day 1 04.04.20

Day 1 of the weirdest WrestleMania ever is over and done with and despite its jarring format and strange appearance, we were treated to two women’s matches on the card.

The show opened with Stephanie McMahon welcoming us to WrestleMania.

The Kabuki Warriors vs Alexa Bliss & Nikki Cross – WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship

Surprisingly stiff match with all competitors laying it in. There were strong moves and great sequences throughout. The action was fast and fun and really set the bar for what followed for the rest of the night.

An excellent and strong opening match with a lot of energy and physicality that never slowed down and ended with a nice surprise victory for Bliss and Cross, who are now the first-ever two-time WWE Women’s Tag-Team Champions.

Could the loss of the belts mean single runs for the Asuka and Kairi Sane? I certainly hope so.

Becky Lynch vs Shayna BaszlerRAW Women’s Championship

Physical straight of the gate, Baszler and Lynch best the hell out of each other here with stiff strikes, big power moves and submissions galore.

Lynch and Baszler brawled both in and out of the ring using the rings steps, the announcer’s table and the ropes to their respective advantage.

Baszler and Lynch would tussle trying to lock in submissions Baszler uses her submission prowess and locks up Lynch in her own hold.

Lynch would use her own in-ring prowess to reverse a Kirifuda Clutch into a pinning predicament to get the three count and the victory.

Another great match as the two showed that they have great in-ring chemistry and the quick surprise victory keeps the feud alive and could possibly/hopefully lead to Four Horsewomen vs. Four Horsewomen.

The only negative I have about the match is that it didn’t main event. This was a great opportunity to have Becky Lynch and a women’s match headline WrestleMania in back to back years, however, it wasn’t to be. But let us not dwell on the negative and rejoice in the fact that Becky Lynch has been the RAW Women’s Champion for a full year.
