Ring of Honor announced that wrestling legend, Sumie Sakai has re-signed with the company. Sakai has appeared for ROH since 2002 and become a vital part of their women’s division.
Sakai was the first-ever Women of Honor champion when she defeated Kelly Klein in the tournament finals at Supercard Of Honor XII in 2018. She became the longest-reigning champion holding the title for a record 251 days.
As well as Ring of Honor, Sakai has wrestled for multiple promotions all over the world such as; STARDOM, CMLL and AJWPW to name but a few.
Sakai is an integral part of the promotion’s rebooted women’s division. Last year, ROH announced they were to crown a first-ever ROH World Women’s Champion in the Quest For Gold tournament. Unfortunately, the pandemic struck and the plans put on hold.
Sakai’s last match for ROH was back in February last year in a losing effort against Session Moth Martina.
