WWE Women’s Tag Team Titles need to make a home on the NXT brand

There was a lot of excitement for the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship when it was first won in 2019 at the Elimination Chamber pay-per-view. Without a fully realized tag team division, there was still faith that having another title for the women was a good thing. Especially since it is arguably the best-looking title aesthetically on the roster and giving another chance for the women. In my opinion, it is still a good thing, but it needs more help than ever.

When the titles were first won by the inaugural champions (Sasha Banks & Bayley) it was announced that they would be defended on all three main brands. Over time the idea of NXT participating in the tag titles has dwindled and is often barely mentioned as a viable option. With them only being defended on that brand a couple of times, the last time was when then-champions Banks & Bayley faced Shotzi Blackheart and Tegan Nox in June.

The depth of the NXT roster needs a second title and could utilize it way more than the main roster. This is also the most opportune time to get the belts on the black and gold brand because of the recent announcement of the Women’s Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic.

This will be the first time the women are involved in this tournament and it is placed squarely where the larger pool of talent resides. The winners of this tournament normally receive a trophy and since 2019 they have earned a title shot for the tag titles. There has not been a date set yet for when the women’s tournament will start as the men’s kicks off this week.

Currently, the Women’s Tag Team Titles are in the grasps of Charlotte Flair and Asuka. The straps aren’t needed where they are at mainly because it is stifling the RAW Women’s Title which is currently being held by Asuka. Each title needs its own focus as the plethora amount of women as a whole in the company is vast. Even prior to winning the tag titles, Asuka hasn’t defended her RAW Women’s Title since September (against Zelina Vega) minus a quick match with Lana which was interrupted by Nia Jax and Shayna Baszler in November.

Having the tag titles in NXT could really put more eyes on additional talent and start building up the women’s division as a whole.

What would you think about the tag titles being placed on the NXT brand? Do you think it would be a positive placement or would it be a detriment? Who would you like to see from NXT become champions?
