Tay Conti will be getting her match for the AEW Women’s World Title next week on Dynamite against the champion Hikaru Shida.
Conti has been sitting firmly at the top of the AEW Women’s Rankings for a few weeks now making her the number one contender. Red Velvet was in the number one position prior to Conti but has been in the number two position. Below are the current rankings that were released today before Dynamite. Keep in mind this does not include results from tonight’s show.
Champion: Hikaru Shida (2-0 in 2021, 35-8 overall)
1. Tay Conti (10-2) (18-5) (Last Week: #1)
2. Red Velvet (5-0) (17-12) (LW: #2)
3. Britt Baker (7-1) (24-14) (LW: #4)
4. Nyla Rose (6-2) (28-11) (LW: #5)
5. Thunder Rosa (7-2) (13-5) (LW: Not Ranked)
Ryo Mizunami fell off the rankings from the #3 spot.
This will be Conti’s first shot at the AEW Women’s World Title but she did have her first televised title match in January for the NWA World Women’s Title. That match was against the champion Serena Deeb who retained.
Regardless if Conti is able to take down Shida next week or not, Dr. Britt Baker is chomping at the bit to become number one contender. She has been paying very close to the rankings. With Red Velvet losing tonight to Jade Cargill, this makes Baker’s 7-1 record better than Velvet’s now 5-1 record.
Baker analyzed this in a backstage segment on tonight’s Dynamite. She says she will be elevated up the rankings when she is in action on Monday’s Dark Elevation.
The D.M.D. isn’t the only one with her eye on the top prize. Thunder Rosa who landed herself in the number five spot this week on the rankings has her heart set on becoming the AEW champ. She also wants to hold the NWA championship again as well. Rosa wants to take over the world.
Do you think Conti will be able to stop the reign of Shida? Will it be Baker or Rosa to get a shot next? Leave your thoughts below.
