AEW All Out was a ground-breaking and game-changing PPV that featured shocks, surprises and a most excellent women’s championship match.
Let’s get right into the review.
Britt Baker vs Kris Statlander AEW Women’s World Championship
Both wrestlers looked phenomenal coming into the match and spent the first moments feeling each other out.
Statlander’s raw power and huge strength advantage were on full display when she shook the champ early on.
Baker fired back with a vicious top rope neck breaker followed by a nasty stomp driving her opponent’s face into the ring apron.
Statlander missed a 450 splash after a scary yet impressive superplex. The miss allowed Baker to attempt the Lock Jaw but to no avail. Standlander continued to give Baker her toughest fight as champion and dropped her face-first from ontop of her shoulders. A scissor kick followed but only got a two-count, which received chants of “this is awesome!”
The challenger lost the advantage when she missed a pendulum moonsault to the outside. Baker then smashed her with a curb stomp from the steel steps before laying into Statlander with a barrage of kicks to the head.
Baker then hit a Pittsburgh Sunrise in ode to her boyfriend Adam Cole that sent the fans into a frenzy. Another curb stomp followed by the Lock Jaw caused the tenacious Statlander to pass out and cost her match.
A tremendous match and one of the best women’s outings in AEW. Both stars put in a stellar effort to deliver a passionate and enthralling title bout.
Britt Baker remains at the top of her game, which is made even more impressive by the fact she is wrestling with a broken wrist. Her opponent Kris Statlander showed that she was a worthy challenger and most certainly a future champion.
Excellent action from start to finish.
Women’s Casino Battle Royale
The match started with Sky Blue getting a great response along with the rest of her suit. Once the first set of competitors were in the ring chaos ensued and refused to let up until the end.
Anna Jay entered with fire and ferocity and went right after the Bunny. Nyla Rose came in and cleared house, but met her match when Thunder Rosa got in her face and flattened her with a big dropkick. The rest of the set followed and the melee continued.
Jamie Hayter made her presence felt eliminating Riho and Big Swole in quick succession. Tay Conti burst into action taking out the Bunny and Penelope Ford who were double-teaming Anna Jay. Red Velvet took out Hayter and eliminated Rebel.
Leyla Hirsch exploded into the match dropping rose with a big german suplex but was press slammed out of the ring and onto the referees below by Jade Cargill. As Cargill posed she was thrown out by Rose.
With everyone participant entered only the Joker remained. As the timer counted down the fans chanted “Ruby Soho” and their wish was granted as she entered to a tremendous ovation. Clearly emotional due to the response she hit the ring to take out the Native Beast.
After another sequence of frantic action and eliminations Soho, Rosa and Rose were left standing. Despite trying to work together Soho and Rosa got beat down by Rose.
Rosa eliminated Rose much to the delight of the crowd, which left the newcomer and one of AEW’s most formidable fighters. As they fought on the ring apron seemingly at the edge of elimination the fans chanted for both wrestlers. They erupted once again as Ruby Soho claimed victory in her new wrestling home.
The was a manic match as any multi-person outing is but this featured some great spots and set up several future feuds. Cargill and Rose will surely clash after their interaction. Anna Jay and Tay Conti vs The Bunny and Penelope Ford is a tag team rivalry in the making while Thunder Rosa and Ruby Soho must meet again.
Let’s get to the winners and losers.
Winner: Ruby Soho
Soho exuded superstar as soon she stepped out to thunderous cheers. Despite being predictable the debut hit all of the right notes. The emotion etched on her face as she entered the arena and the sheer joy when she won was a special sight.
She looked rejuvenated, unchained and ready to take on the world, which is exactly what she did.
Her exchanges with Thunder Rosa were fantastic and only a taste of what they can do in the ring and showed she hasn’t lost anything during her ring absence.
After years of being underutilized Soho is finally getting the opportunity she deserves.
Winner: Britt Baker
Baker’s star continues to rise every time she steps out onto the stage and this was no different. Since her heel turn last year she has just constantly excelled at everything she does.
Baker exhibited every ounce of her grit and determination as she overcame her strongest opponent since becoming champion.
It was easily her best in-ring performance since defeating Thunder Rosa and further proof that she is the face of the AEW women’s division.
Winner: Kris Statlander
Since her return from injury earlier this year, Statlander has been on fire. She came back in excellent condition and with purpose. She honed her act and in-ring style dropping much of the comedic elements and focused on her power and athleticism.
The result of the match may have not been in her favour but her performance showed her as one of AEW’s most improved wrestlers.
Losers:
While there were no specific losers there were a handful of wrestlers such as Hikaru Shida, Riho, Diamante and Big Swole that could’ve done with getting more shine.
Final Thoughts:
The championship match was excellent with champion and challenger putting on one hell of a show and star-making/solidifying performances.
The Casino Battle Royale surprise and win gave us one of the greatest moments of the year.
