WWE Queen of the Ring reportedly receives a new name

Much like Evolution 2, WWE’s Queen of the Ring tournament is the El Dorado of women’s wrestling events. However, reports surrounding a women’s only tournament surfaced in recent months.

Previous reports from Andrew Zarian of The Mat Men podcast stated that the finals of the tournament are scheduled to take place in Saudi Arabia, at Crown Jewel later this month. Now Zarian has taken to Twitter to report that the tournament is subject to the name change:

“Queen’s Crown Tournament” is the official name moving forward for “Queen of The Ring”

Zarian would answer in a thread that the start date of the tournament should fall between SmackDown’s Oct.8 show and RAW’s Oct. 11 show.

The WWE and Saudi Arabia is a controversial partnership, to say the least. Originally women were not permitted to participate in events held in the Kingdom. However, Renee Young became the first woman to feature on the show as part of the commentary table.

The following event hosted the first-ever women’s match in the country between Natalya and Lacey Evans at Crown Jewel in 2019. Then at Super ShowDown in February of last year, Bayley defended the SmackDown Women’s Title against Naomi.

Could this year’s event showcase the final of an all women’s tournament? We’ll have to wait and see.
