Thunder Rosa on AEW buying her out of NWA

Thunder Rosa may have only become ‘All Elite’ back in July, but she has been working with AEW for nearly a year by the time of her signing while under contract with NWA.

As a former NWA World Women’s Champion, Rosa started to provide more exposure to the championship and for NWA to the AEW fanbase. In talks with Fightful Select, Rosa confirmed that she ended up being bought out of her NWA contract by Tony Khan a few months before her contract was up.

Fightful has learned that there was heat between Rosa and NWA long before she asked for her release in late 2020. They had a rocky end to their relationship and by the end, she was going directly through Pat Kenney [NWA’s Director of Talent Relations] for her work there.

She adds that Tony Khan went above and beyond to make her feel wanted in AEW and that he has confidence in her abilities.

Rosa recently took the pin in a Three-way match that involved Jade Cargill and Nyla Rose. Cargill achieved the win. Rosa followed up in her growing feud with Cargill on the Oct. 8 episode of Rampage when she came out to help Skye Blue.

You can watch the recent interview with Fightful below where they talk about her joining AEW and her own all-women’s promotion Mission Pro Wrestling.
