The recent booking decisions within WWE women’s division has received criticism from fans online and reportedly created “significant resentment” backstage.
According to Fightful Select, there is growing frustration surrounding the handling of the division. The report goes on to state that both employees and talent are exasperated by the lack of time and attention given to matches and segments.
On the October 8th edition of SmackDown. The show kicked off the long-awaited all-women’s tournament Queen’s Crown with two first-round matches.
The matches saw Zelina Vega defeat Toni Storm in just over two minutes while Carmella beat tournament favourite Liv Morgan in one minute forty seconds. The little time allotted to the matches on the show received backlash on social media. Many fans aired their frustrations online in reaction to the less than favourable treatment of the women’s division.
Fightful also added that the decision was changed on the winner of the Morgan/Carmella match in which Morgan was originally penciled in as the winner. Carmella took the win and will face Zelina Vega this Friday.
This isn’t the first time in recent months that the women’s division expereinced a raw deal. On the September 10, edition of SmackDown from MSG, WWE removed an entire match from the show.
WWE Hall of Famer Brie Bella criticised the current state of the women’s division, especially the women’s tag team division.
The Queen’s Crown tournament continues tonight on RAW where Natalya will face Doudrop and Dana Brooke takes on Shayna Baszler.
