The 2022 Royal Rumble housed a lot of returning talent with many of them having a lot of history with one another.
Melina entered a WWE ring for the first time in 11-years at the number two entrant and she started the Rumble squaring off with Sasha Banks who drew number one. Despite not lasting nearly as long as she had wanted to, Melina gets emotional in a Digital Exclusive about what it meant to her to be home.
Coming from a time when the women having their own Royal Rumble was unheard of and something she never would have expected to happen in her wildest dreams, Melina was happy to be a part of it. She is proud of the current women’s roster and what they are doing for the future of women’s wrestling.
Speaking of a moment that no one thought would happen, Mickie James entered the Royal Rumble as the IMPACT Knockouts World Champion. Not only did she have the belt around her waist but she came out to Hardcore Country. Her IMPACT gimmick that she was never able to bring to WWE.
In her emotional Digital Exclusive, she acknowledges the history she has with the women she met in the Rumble match. Lita for example, who ended up eliminating Mickie after staying in for nearly 12-minutes, was payback from Lita’s retirement match in 2006 Survivor Series. James defeated Lita in that match to win the Women’s Championship and served as Lita’s last match in the process.
James gives a nod to Melina and says she wishes that she was still in the match when she entered so that they could have had a moment together.
Other legends plus surprise returns included – Kelly Kelly, Ivory, The Bella Twins, Mighty Molly, Alicia Fox, Michelle McCool, Cameron, Summer Rae, and Sarah Logan.
