At the start of tonight’s AEW Dynamite, Tony Khan made his major announcement that he was advertising. Khan now owns the Ring of Honor promotion.
ROH has been on hiatus since the end of 2021 and the promotion is geared to restart on April 1 at Supercard of Honor. Along with this, the company released their talent from their contracts to pursue other companies in the meantime. Currently, there are no women’s matches announced for Supercard of Honor, however, the ROH Women’s World Champion is currently IMPACT Knockout Deonna Purrazzo.
In 2021, ROH made huge strides to build up a women’s division with the guidance of Maria Kanellis Bennett. A women’s tournament to start a new lineage of a women’s championship along with Women’s Division Wednesday which featured women weekly. Maria responds to Khan’s news on social media.
The Quest for Gold featured 15 competitors which came down to Rok-C and Miranda Alize who battled in the finals at Death Before Dishonor to become the inaugural champion. Rok-C came away with that win and went on to hold the title for 119-days before dropping it to Purrazzo.
Although ROH was reviving its women’s division prior to its hiatus, several women in AEW have done work with the promotion. Dr. Britt Baker, Thunder Rosa, Serena Deeb, and Mercedes Martinez are just some of the names that have stepped through the ROH ropes.
Hopefully, once ROH starts back in April, a women’s division is built up once again to give fans more women’s wrestling.
