The biggest event of the year is here and will take place over two days. Both today and tomorrow, WrestleMania 38 will air from Dallas, TX.
For Saturday’s event, there will be two championship matches with both the Raw and SmackDown Women’s Titles being defended. On Sunday, the Women’s Tag Team Titles will be on the line in a Fatal 4-way. Below are the matches.
April 2 – WrestleMania Saturday
Becky Lynch (c) vs. Bianca Belair – Raw Women’s Championship
Charlotte Flair (c) vs. Ronda Rousey – SmackDown Women’s Championship
April 3 – WrestleMania Sunday
Carmella & Queen Zelina (c) vs. Naomi & Sasha Banks, Liv Morgan & Rhea Ripley, and Shayna Baszler & Natalya – Women’s Tag Team Championships
First, we have the match that has arguably the best build and that is the Raw Women’s Championship match. The history is already written into this storyline as Becky Lynch returned at SummerSlam and defeated Bianca Belair in 26 seconds for the SmackDown Women’s Title. Since then, Belair has wanted to defeat Lynch and winning gold in the process would be the icing on the cake.
The two have done very well in this build between Becky utilizing social media to grow this feud and even the attack on each other’s throat was done well. The final cherry on top was Lynch wanting to cut Belair’s braid off in the middle of the ring only to have Belair chop off Lynch’s hair instead.
This definitely has the best build and is the most anticipated women’s match in my opinion.
Prediction: Becky has to drop the title at this exact point. Everything has built up nicely for Bianca to take this title and arguably Becky has had a nice reign. I think ending it on this note with Becky coming back and beating Bianca for a title just for Bianca to win one back is perfect. Becky’s matches with Liv Morgan, Doudrop, and Lita were very well done and this is probably one of the better reigns of Becky’s career. Bianca should win tonight.
Next, we have the SmackDown Women’s Championship. Charlotte Flair defending against Ronda Rousey. The appreciation was there for the brawls in this build-up but other than that it feels to be the least anticipated match on the card. The general storyline is that each competitor plans to tap the other out at WrestleMania.
For the last two weeks, both Flair and Rousey have been separated and not near each other during promos. Personally, the booking should have been flipped with the promos for two weeks and then the brawls happening the past two weeks.
Prediction: This one could go either way, but I will stick with the obvious answer and that is Ronda Rousey wins. An obvious rematch would happen at WrestleMania Backlash where Flair could win it right back. Or perhaps Shayna could finally get her singles run and go up against Rousey.
Lastly, on Sunday, April 3, we have the Women’s Tag Team Championships on the line in a Fatal 4-way.
Carmella & Queen Zelina have been on the losing end ever since this match was officially booked as just a regular tag team match between them and Naomi & Sahsa Banks. Since then, two more teams were added Liv Morgan & Rhea Ripley along with Shayna Baszler and Natalya.
Over the past month, Naomi, Sasha, Rhea, and have all earned pins on the champions. Despite the lack of depth in storytelling, there have been some good matches amongst these eight women over the past few weeks.
Prediction: Naomi and Sasha take the gold. With Zelina and Carmella never getting a win and Carmella going to get married in her real life, I don’t see them retaining. The only other team I can see taking it would be Rhea and Liv. Natalya and Shayna I don’t see staying together once this match is over.
