The current AEW Women’s World Champion Thunder Rosa wants to continue to elevate the women’s roster in AEW with more first-time matches.
So far in the history of AEW, there haven’t been too many stipulation matches for the women but Rosa has been involved in a couple. She fought Dr. Britt Baker in the first women’s Unasanctioned Lights Out match and more recently the first steel cage match. She defeated Baker in March to become the current champion in the steel cage main event.
Now, Rosa wants to continue this momentum. She is set to defend the title against Serena Deeb at the Double or Nothing pay-per-view event at the end of the month in Las Vegas. She would like to participate in an Iron Woman match and even a Blood & Guts match for the women’s roster.
“I will definitely love to do an Iron Woman Match. I know Serena mentioned that last week, and I will second that. It hasn’t been done at AEW,” she said on the latest Women’s Wrestling Talk podcast. “You know, I like to break barriers and be the first one to be part of that. I would love to do one of those. I would like to do a Blood & Guts match. I think that would be so much fun with all the women that we have, we have really good women on our roster. Yeah, we have a lot of fun. I can go crazy. So I like to do that kind of stuff.” [h/t – Fightful]
In a separate interview with Under the Ring, Rosa recently compared her rivalry with Baker to that of Trish Stratus and Lita. Despite entering a feud with Deeb, her time with Baker doesn’t seem to be over and will be something that will be revised again in the future.
“Every match that we had, it escalated to the next level. At first, we had our match that was a regular match at Beach Break. Then, we had the tag matches and the blow-off [Lights Outs]. The rivalry that we had, it’s real. Now that I took the title from her, it’s not something that is going to end. It’s like The Rock and Stone Cold (Steve Austin), something similar, or Trish (Stratus) and Lita. Something of that sort.
Something that is never going to end. Our matches were definitely more physical in terms of female wrestling. We pushed a lot of boundaries that I don’t think people were used to seeing women in the mainstream media, doing something of that sort, especially on the last one. I probably watched it 10 times and I cannot tell you the amount of pain that everyone that was part of that match went through. From the wrestlers to the referees. It was very intense and we definitely…we had an opportunity to elevate women’s wrestling to another level with it.” [h/t – Fightful]
