Lacey Evans is the first woman to qualify for the upcoming 2022 Money in the Bank Ladder Match. The premium live event takes place on July 2 and there will be eight women total in the match. Evans made her in-ring return for the first time since February 2021 on the June 10 SmackDown episode in a match against Xia Li.
As the match reached its finish, Evans achieved a near fall after a standing senton. Li fired back by striking Evans down to the mat. Back up on her feet, Evans delivered a Woman’s Right to get the three count and the victory.
The second women’s match of this week’s SmackDown was a Championship Contenders Match between the SmackDown Women’s Champion Ronda Rousey and Shotzi. Before the bout, it was confirmed that Rousey will be defending the blue belt against the number one contender Natalya at Money in the Bank.
The bout between Rousey and Shotzi was given a good chunk of time. Shotzi got in a ton of offense on the champion and several near falls earning herself a future title opportunity. Unfortunately, Shotzi wasn’t able to pull out the win and Rousey caused her to tap out in the arm bar.
After the match as Rousey was celebrating her win, Natalya immediately went on the attack and locked in the Sharpshooter on her Money in the Bank opponent. Rousey would not tap out as officials try to stop her. Natalya would eventually break the hold.
