The Raw Women’s Champion Bianca Belair sat down with Ashley Nicole Moss for Laces Out on Sports Illustrated just ahead of her Money in the Bank championship match this Saturday. Originally scheduled to face Rhea Ripley, Belair is now focused on her new opponent who she has a lot of history with – Carmella.
While speaking with Moss, Belair was asked if she feels that WWE Stars aren’t seen as “real athletes” by their peers in the sports world. Belair confidently says she does feel that way and told them why they shouldn’t discredit WWE Superstars.
“Yeah, I do. I feel there’s a little bit of, ‘oh, I mean, they’re not really an athlete.’ And the thing is, I don’t try to take offense because I didn’t come from the WWE world. I didn’t grow up watching wrestling. I never aspired to be a WWE Superstar. I wanted to be an Olympic track athlete. I wanted to be an Olympic gymnast. I was an athlete my whole life, so I understand how it is from the outside looking in.
But now that I’m in the inside of WWE, and I’m a WWE Superstar all I got to say is when I meet athletes, I’m like – put some respect on our name, you know?”
Belair also commented on facing Ronda Rousey in the future, more specifically if they both make it to Survivor Series still as champions.
“I’m a competitor. I’ve been a competitive my whole life. I love and crave competition. So and I’m always trying to prove that I’m the best. That’s why I call myself the EST of WWE. Any time I can step in the ring with someone else with the caliber of Ronda Rousey, I’m gonna run towards the opportunity. So as long as she’s still champion and I’m still champion at Survivor Series, we might see Bianca Belair vs. Ronda Rousey,” she said.
Money in the Bank takes place this Saturday on July 2 where Belair not only defends against Carmella but Rousey will put her SmackDown Women’s Title on the line against Natalya. Plus the seven-woman Money in the Bank Ladder Match.
