On the Dec. 2 edition of Monday Night Raw, the WWE Women’s Intercontinental Title Tournament kicked off. Much like the ongoing WWE Women’s United States Title Tournament over on SmackDown, we are in the midst of crowning first champions for both. Both tournament first rounds consist of Triple Threat matches.
We saw Dakota Kai advance on Monday’s Raw as she defeated Shayna Baszler and Katana Chance. The longest tenured woman in the locker room, Natalya is in a first round match to come later between Alba Fyre and Kairi Sane.
Natalya was interviewed backstage by Cathy Kelley. Natalya talks about her history in WWE and says she has either trained them all, beat them all, or both. She was about to say how it would feel if she were to become the first Women’s Intercontinental Champion but was interrupted by Fyre and Isla Dawn.
Fyre makes it clear that Natalya isn’t going to win the tournament. She calls the veteran a footnote and says she is going to ruin her legacy. Natalya does state that she is still standing after many women have tried to take her down and they are no longer around.
Natalya’s last singles gold was the SmackDown Women’s Title in 2017. Since then she did become Women’s Tag Team Champion with Tamina.
As for Fyre, she is the longest reigning NXT UK Women’s Champion. She has won both the NXT and WWE Women’s Tag Team Titles since with Isla Dawn.
The tournament continues next week as Zelina Vega vs. Lyra Valkyria vs. Ivy Nile takes place.
