Maria Kanellis Addresses WrestleMania Rumors, Tension With Other Divas

Former WWE Diva Maria Kanellis is looking to clear up some rumors about a planned WrestleMania match and what caused that plan to be discarded.

Reported by Diva Dirt back in March, the idea would have brought back several former Divas to take on the current crop.

In an interview with SLAM! Wrestling, the current FWE Women’s Champion confirmed that this was in the works, saying, “I did get contacted by WWE at the end of January, beginning of February, something like that, and for about a month, I was in talks with WWE. We talked about contracts, I had no problem with anything that was in the contract; but about a month after, they called back and said they weren’t moving forward with the storyline.”

Rumors would eventually surface that the plans fell apart due to some Divas’ reluctance to work with Maria again. On that she said, “I’m friends most of the girls, I talk with a lot of them at least once a week if not a couple times a week, so I don’t know where that comes from.”

She did admit to having had difficulties with some of the women, as well as being “fiery” following her WWE release. Diva Dirt’s April 2010 interview with Maria serves as an example of that fieriness, as Maria certainly spoke her mind about her time as a WWE Diva. Things are different now though, as she tells SLAM, “I get along with pretty much everyone; I don’t have those issues. I had disagreements with people in the past, but I really worked hard to get rid of those disagreements.”

Maria dismissed the thought that Brie and Nikki Bella–the only former Divas recently re-signed–squashed the match idea, saying, “I can’t imagine them being that immature to say something like that.”

Despite her return storyline being scrapped, Maria is still open to making a WWE return, telling SLAM that, if the opportunity were to arise, she would be happy to go back.
