SummerSlam in Review: The Good Guys Win

So, I hope you guys are ready to scream and be slayed because the biggest party of the summer had a lot of weave snatching and wigs flying. SummerSlam was AMAZING, and all of you say otherwise, take yourself somewhere else! Kidding, of course. I do run my country as a free country, and believe everyone is entitled to their own opinions, whether they’re completely brilliant or totally asinine. All of us were excited over the possibility of a Diva match at the second biggest show of the year, but as we found out on Raw there would be a second Diva match. Total Divas has definitely elevated the Divas and I just love watching all the haters have to eat crow because of it, hehe.

I’m going to kick this Redux off tonight with Summer Rae and Fandango. Our two favorite dancers weren’t on the card, but the made their presence felt in a series of altercations with the official host of SummerSlam, former WWE Champion The Miz. Summer was killing it in yellow with a dash of pink tonight, and Fandango was his usual fierce self. Miz was super dashing in a tuxedo.

Harmless fun. I don’t mind Summer and Fandango being extremely random. They got their paycheck for the night and SummerSlam Axxess competitor and Diva supporter, Maria Menounos, got involved in the action.

Not bad for something who didn’t even make the finals on her season of Dancing With the Stars. We all should have known she would make it on to the big show in some capacity, and kudos to her. She’s one of the biggest celebrity WWE supporters, what else really needs to be said? The ending to all of this madness came when Miz finally knocked out Fandango.

Harmless fun, and I don’t even mind. It gave the three of them something to do, and it got another Diva on the show. Two more Divas that had appearances were JoJo, who sang the National Anthem, and Lillian Garcia, getting a chance to show off her flawless Spanish.

I’ll be the first to admit that I didn’t see JoJo perform Tons of Funk‘s theme song. I completely missed it and this was my first opportunity to see her sing. I thought she did a great job. She has a really, really pretty voice and her rendition of the anthem was solid. I also loved her dress, even thought it didn’t do anything to make her look more mature. She just has a naturally adorable babyface. Live it up, girl. No one is ever going to think you’re old enough and that’s an amazing thing!

Lillian’s brief SummerSlam moment came before Alberto Del Rio and my love, Christian, faced one another for the World Heavyweight Championship.

Viva Espana!!! Granted, Alberto is from Mexico, but you get the point. Lilian looked gorgeous tonight, and she got to show off her bilingual roots. I know it wasn’t really anything to brag about, but the two Diva matches we got will give me enough opportunity to boast. The nice thing is we got to see Lilian and it’s the little things that count. I loved this little bit, and hopefully we’ll get to see her do more Spanish announcing since Ricardo Rodriguez is gone from Alberto’s side. Now onto the two Diva main events. We’re gonna start off with the mixed tag match first that featured Diva’s Champion AJ Lee and her partner in crime Big E. Langston taking on the team of former NXT lovers Kaitlyn and Dolph Ziggler.

I wanted to get into this match first because I feel like these four people, who have spent the better part of this year and last working together, put together something amazing. On any other show and in any other circumstances, they probably would have gotten a huge reaction. But unfortunately for Kaitlyn, AJ, Dolph, and E they had to follow CM Punk and Brock Lesnar, who absolutely tore the house down and ripped up the whole neighborhood. The Kaitlyn and AJ feud has been lengthy, I get that. But that’s what we want when it comes to Diva rivalries. Every match between the two, every promo, and every interaction had feeling and meaning behind it. It wasn’t always perfect, but nothing ever is. But it was entertaining and it was everything it needed to be. As the way it stands now, Kaitlyn still doesn’t have a real victory over AJ. She didn’t get the pin last night, Prince Dawlf did, but she got some measure of revenge. She took AJ out at the very end so that Dawlf could secure that victory for their team.

The match itself wasn’t bad. It wasn’t Earth-shattering, and it wasn’t something a lot of people will remember. And that’s a shame. I feel like it was the culmination of several different storylines and now the four of them will likely go off on their own. The WWE could always swerve us, but I think for awhile AJ and Kaitlyn are done with one another. There are a lot of other challengers AJ needs to face and beat to be considered the greatest champ of all time and Kaitlyn has a feud with Layla waiting in the wings should they go that route. I don’t know where Dawlf and Langston go from here, but both will be fine, I’m sure.

I’m just sad that their conclusion had to follow such an emotionally draining match. I credit the crowd who weren’t completely dead during this. They did try and get into it. But in the end what was a good little match ended up being nothing more than filler between the two monster matches that stole the show. It deserved a heck of a lot better, but props to all four of them who went out there and gave it their everything knowing what they had just seen backstage. I’m not really going to miss them all together, but I’m definitely invested in seeing what they do now.

Watch them have a rematch tonight or something. It wouldn’t shock me, haha.

I have to say that the quality of the singles match did end up shocking me and in such a great way. Natalya, along with Cameron and Naomi at ringside, took on Brie Bella, who had Nikki and Eva Marie with her, totally killed their match.

When the Bellas and Eva made their way to ringside, my jaw dropped. They looked AMAZING. I could not even with their pin-up inspired looks and just how fab they were. Like really, they were total Divas. They looked like Hollywood stars. That’s not to say that the other three looked bad, because they were anything but. Natalya looked like a Queen with a capital “Q” as she was walking to the ring. She had this regal look of determination that let you know that she was winning that match before Brie could even get in the ring. The Funkadactyls were fierce. I wanted to holler. Hell, I hollered, screamed, screeched, and yodelled. I couldn’t help myself.

The match itself was impressive. It was the match of Brie’s career thus far, and Natalya definitely needed that victory. If this doesn’t secure her spot as the number one contender, I bet she will end up getting some other win on Raw or SmackDown this week. The interaction on the outside wasn’t that big of a distraction and was kept to a minimum. I loved it. It was the perfect Total Divas teaser and left me wanting more, more, more. This show has done wonders for all the ladies involved and I’m glad they got to have a huge moment on the biggest stage of the Summer, and I’m even more happy that Natalya got this huge win. She’s always had a special place in my heart and I hope and pray to all the wrestling gods that all of this is going to culminate into a title feud and reign for her.

I used the word “culminate” way to much in this. Anyway, I loved SummerSlam. It was everything WrestleMania should have been and then some. Every single match had a purpose, a meaning, and a moment. For all the ladies and gentlemen involved, I say well done. I can’t wait for Raw tonight and see what happens with all of this fall out. A lot of chapters were completed last night, and new ones are about to be open. What an amazing time to be a Diva fan! I’m so, so, so proud to be a supporter of these women.

A+++++++++++++++++++++++ all the way around!

Until next time… (which is sooner than you think ;-)) Cryssi out!
