Women of the Year 2013: Evie

Every hour until the clock strikes midnight (Eastern time) and we usher in 2014, Diva Dirt will highlight – in no particular order – the women who made an impact in 2013.

Evie

Very few people deserve to be called “Khaleesi” but New Zealand’s best export, Evie, is one of the few. For the past couple of years we have been hearing about how explosive Evie’s kicks are, and how great she is inside the ring. We have been told that she exudes charisma and has something special about her, all those little intangible things that can’t be taught. We’ve been able to read about her success in her home country and in Australia, and finally… FINALLY we got to witness it with our very own eyes.

2013 brought Evie to America where she made her SHIMMER and SHINE debuts, delighting fans each and every time she stepped through the ropes. Her smile was always friendly, always bright, and she was happy, so so happy, to be competing. Away from the ring, she was approachable and adorable, hanging out with fans at the SHIMMER after party and letting us see first-hand what Oceania has known all along.

At SHIMMER, Evie had stand out matches with Mia Yim and Kimber Lee, with many fans saying that Evie versus Kimber was their favorite match of the entire weekend. In Australia, she became the number one girl in PWWA, winning their Undisputed PWWA Championship by defeating Madison Eagles. Evie also became Impact Pro Wrestling New Zealand Women’s Champ twice – regaining the championship after it was unfairly taken from her. The same night she would regain her championship, Evie would align herself with the dark side, joining a newly formed stable called The Investment, a group of badasses who have plans to ensure the future of New Zealand pro-wrestling.

Oh man.

Here’s hoping that in 2014, Evie can keep her title of Undisputed Khaleesi of Pro-Wrestling. Hopefully her newly announced tenure in Japan will help keep her more Daenerys Targaryen instead of evil queen Cersei Lannister.

Come back at the top of every hour to see who else has been crowned one of 2013’s “Women of the Year”.
