Every hour until the clock strikes midnight (Eastern time) and we usher in 2014, Diva Dirt will highlight – in no particular order – the women who made an impact in 2013.
AJ Lee
AJ Lee: a woman that needs no introduction. What is there to say that hasn’t been said about the polarizing, brilliant figure at the top of the division? Not much, but that doesn’t mean we can’t pile onto the copious amounts of praise Lee already receives.
Starting 2013 off with a bang, AJ and her new beau Dolph Ziggler enlisted the help of one Big E. Langston to take down her ex, John Cena and become three of the most dominant figures on WWE TV. Eventually though, as the months went on, she found herself becoming entangled with ex-best friend, Kaitlyn, being involved in various backstage arguments and pull apart brawls that would lead to the two facing off in a non-title match on the March 25th edition of Raw. The match ended with AJ victorious via countout after Kaitlyn took a nasty spill on the outside, and while seeing the two go one on one was exciting in its own right, many thought that was the end of a small feud… oh were they ever wrong.
AJ would then go on to become a catfish of sorts, pretending to be a secret admirer to Kaitlyn and getting her to fall for him so hard that she would go on to alienate her friends in the process. Once Lee revealed her master plan, she broke Kaitlyn enough to then secure her first Divas Championship at Payback by defeating her ex-BFF and thus embarking upon a feud that would see the first ever contract signing for the Divas title as well as pay per view matches and heavy fan involvement. Once things were wrapped up there, AJ moved on to the Total Divas, a group consisting of Natalya, Eva Marie, JoJo, Brie Bella, Nikki Bella, Cameron and Naomi.
Not only was her feud with Kaitlyn heavily publicized and talked about, but so was her now infamous “Pipe Bombshell” on the cast of Total Divas, dubbing them as useless, interchangeable women who turned to reality television because they weren’t gifted enough to be real actresses. Lee felt all seven of them should be thanking her for getting people to care about the Divas division again and was furious that they were taking up airtime after she had worked so hard to establish not only herself, but the Divas Championship. Now we stand on December 31st, with AJ just a mere 19 days away from breaking the record of longest reigning Divas Champion. Will she do it? We’ll find out soon enough. But one thing we know for certain is that AJ Lee has accomplished more than enough to be named one of the 2013 Women of the Year.
