Women of the Year 2013: Heidi Lovelace

Every hour until the clock strikes midnight (Eastern time) and we usher in 2014, Diva Dirt will highlight – in no particular order – the women who made an impact in 2013.

Heidi Lovelace

Heidi Lovelace has certainly had quite a stellar 2013, including breaking down many a barrier set in the world of women’s professional wrestling. While Diva Dirt readers may be a bit more familiar with her due to a much publicized OVW storyline in which she possessed romantic feelings for fellow femme fatale, Taeler Hendrix, Lovelace has accomplished quite a lot on the independent circuit as well. Including, but not limited to, appearances at SHINE (featuring a very well regarded showing against Mercedes Martinez specifically) and SHIMMER (where she graduated to the main roster following a victory over Angelus Layne on SPARKLE), Heidi has also turned heads with some critically acclaimed showings as she partook in a variety of intergender matches to boot.

Heidi Lovelace’s 2013 journey starts all the way back in January at the first ever National Pro Wrestling Day, which saw she and partner Devin Bliss team up against Tripp Cassidy and Reed Bentley. The duo didn’t emerge victorious, but Heidi earned far more than just a win that day as soon as the reviews filled with copious amounts of praise came pouring in. From there, Lovelace went on to team up with one of our Women to Watch last year, Saturyne, at CHIKARA’s Tag World Grand Prix, again facing off against male opponents in Darin Corbin and Arik Cannon. Perhaps her biggest moment thus far though, would be when she scored the upset to defeat Eddie Kingston at Wrestling is Heart’s October 19th show.

Add in a debut for AAW where she rivaled “Miss NaturalHeather Patera, a successful return to AIW with two tag team victories under her belt at Girls Night Out 8 (teaming with Nikki St. John to defeat Angel Dust and KC Warfield) and 10 (teaming with Annie Social to take down Leva Bates and Xandra Bale), and a top notch showing at IWA:Mid South just a few weeks ago where she was involved in a Five-Way match… and you’ve got one hell of a year to look back upon. 2014 looks to be no step back for Heidi either, as she’s already set to face Crazy Mary Dobson on January 4th at “Crossing State Lines” in Albion, IL as well as team up with former rival, Reed Bentley to do battle with Mary and Mad Man Pondo on January 9th for Evolution Pro Wrestling’s “Holiday Hangover”. Needless to say, Heidi Lovelace has done way more than enough to earn a spot as one of our 2013 Women of the Year. In fact, she’s probably already done enough to cement her place on the 2014 list as well.

Special thanks to Jennifer.

Come back at the top of every hour to see who else has been crowned one of 2013’s “Women of the Year”.
