AEW’s All Out is upon us and this weekend on Sunday, Sept. 4 there will be three matches that involve the women. All three are championship matches including crowning an Interim AEW Women’s World Champion.
The bouts are as follows –
Tay Melo & Sammy Guevara (c) vs. Ruby Soho & Ortiz – AAA World Mixed Tag Team Championship
Jade Cargill (c) vs. Athena – TBS Championship
Toni Storm vs. Britt Baker vs. Jamie Hayter vs. Hikaru Shida – Interim AEW Women’s World Championship
First up, Melo and Guevara have faced Soho and Ortiz the past two weeks on Rampage, both in non-title bouts. The first encounter the champs won but the second time they faced off Soho and Ortiz picked up the win giving themselves a title opportunity.
Predictions –
Colby: This will be the third (and hopefully final) match in less than two weeks. They’ve put on entertaining matches, however, I have a hard time believing Ruby and Ortiz will win the AAA World Mixed Tag Team Championship. I wouldn’t mind being proved wrong though. Tay Melo will get her retribution when she pins Soho. Winners: Tay & Sammy
Nick: Despite being happy they put more women on the show, this is the most obvious outcome out of all of the matches. I don’t see Ruby & Ortiz getting this win. Winners: Tay & Sammy
Next up we have the TBS Championship being defended as Jade Cargill puts her title and undefeated streak on the line against Athena. This match is a long time coming as Athena has been gunning for Cargill since she became All Elite in May. Cargill is currently sitting at 36-0 and has held the championship since it was introduced in January.
Predictions –
Colby: This is one of the matches I’m looking forward to most out of the entire card. Athena has been chasing Jade for weeks and looks to be the biggest threat to her undefeated streak and unstoppable title reign. It’s hard for me to imagine Jade suffering a loss, yet I don’t know who else will get the job done anytime soon. Let’s see a new TBS Champion crowned after Athena eclipses Cargill. Winner: Athena
Nick: Now if Athena doesn’t win this. I like Jade, but the time has come. With the thought that this may have gone to Kris Statlander (or she would have faced Thunder Rosa) as well is one thing, but having Athena feud with Jade for the past three months and not get the win would be a waste at this point. Let’s crown a new champion. Winner: Athena
Lastly, we have the Interim AEW Women’s World Championship match to determine. The AEW Women’s World Champion Thunder Rosa was originally supposed to face Toni Storm one-on-one. An injury has sidelined her and an interim champion is to be crowned in the meantime. This Four-way match will determine who will be champion in the meantime until Rosa returns and they face off to determine the undisputed champ.
Predictions –
Colby: I thought I knew who I wanted to win this (Toni Storm), but then I realized a case could be made for all of them. Props to Tony for picking these four talent, but that’s all the props he’s getting until he actually gives the women’s division the proper time and attention that it deserves. Will we get that if Baker wins again? What about a big win for character-less Storm? Shida’s carried the division before, so she could do it again. Or Hayter could win it in shocking fashion to help us get to Hayter vs. Baker? Through it all, there’s been the most focus on one woman, and that’s DMD. Winner: Britt Baker
Nick: It is time to give it to Toni. I know people are saying that the interim reign won’t count, but I see her as becoming the undisputed champ once Thunder Rosa returns. Winner: Toni Storm
