AEW’s Double or Nothing is just a few hours away. This is AEW’s second PPV of the year and first to have two women’s matches featured on the main card.
But first we have we a change to scheduled card.
Due to a knee injury suffered on this week’s AEW Dynamite, Britt Baker is no longer able to compete and has been officially pulled from the event.
This is very unfortunate news coldn’t have come at worse time for Britt Baker who has been one of the highlights for AEW for the past couple of months.
If there is a positive to come out of this negative it is that Britt Baker will still be able to provide us with her amazing character work, scathing promos and excellent facial reactions on AEW programming while she recovers.
Hopefully Britt Baker has a speedy and successful recovery and we see her back in the ring soon.
AEW announced that Penelope Ford will be replacing Britt Baker in the match against Kris Statlander.
This is a big opportunity for Ford as it is her first PPV match against one of the division’s top stars. Ford has been quietly picking up some impressive victories as of late, over the likes of former AEW Women’s Champion, Riho. Ford is a star in the making and a strong performance coupled with the victory will surely launch here into title contention.
Statlander will be looking to get back to winning ways after only one win in six matches and to do it on the PPV stage would be all that bit sweeter.
Ford and Statlander are highly athletic performers and have faced each other before a number of times. Expect a lot of athleticism and fast-paced action along with some dastardly high jinx, especially if Ford’s fiance, Kip Sabian is at ringside.
Next up we have the AEW Women’s Championship match between Nyla Rose vs Hikaru Shida.
This rivalry has become so intense that AEW added the stripluations of no disqualifcation and no count out to the match.
With these stipulations attached this match could be and should the best AEW women’s match, we have seen so far.
The “hardcore” elements allow Nyla Rose to play to her strength of being a destructive monster heel, while allowing Shida to use everything, especially her trusty kendo stick, at her disposal to defeat ‘The Native Beast.’
Since capturing the AEW Women’s Championship, Rose has been unstoppable, using raw strength, power moves and weapons to destroy all who have crossed her path. The stipulation allows Nyla to use all of the above to defeat her strongest opponent to date.
Hikaru Shida has been the most consistent and effective performer in the entire division if not the entire company and her stock has risen greatly because of that.
Shida has been built up incredibly well for months to showcase ther skill, her prowess and her ability to take punishment and in a match such as this and against an opponant such as Nyla Rose punishment is what you gonna get. But as we have seen time and time again Shida can certainly dish out the punishment too and the stipulations allow Shida to win whilst keeping Nyla Rose strong.
Expect high intesnisty, wild offence and hardcore action galore. Can’t wait.
Who do you think is going to come out of their respective matches with their hand raised in victory?
