AEW Full Gear takes place tonight and features just one women’s match on the main card. The match is for the AEW Women’s World Championship and has Britt Baker defending her title against Tay Conti.
The Buy In hosts a tag team match pitting Jamie Hayter and Nyla Rose against Hikaru Shida and Thunder Rosa.
Each team member has heat with their respective opponent on the other side. Hayter and Rosa are due to clash in the TBS Championship Eliminator Tournament while Rose and Shida also meet in the second round.
Hayter being part of Britt Baker’s entourage heightens the intensity with Thunder Rosa, which should make for some heated exchanges. Shida and Rosa have a history of having fought over the AEW women’s title on two previous occasions.
This will be a great outing and a sound way to open the show.
Predictions:
John: All four women could go on to become the TBS Champion, which adds some intrigue into the match. Shida is coming off two fabulous bouts against Serena Deeb and Thunder Rosa always brings the fire making them the favourites and my picks to win.
Nick: This one is a weird one for me. Although I fully understand the purpose of the match, it kind of negates Serena Deeb’s last attack on Shida. If Shida waited to get back into the ring when it is her match against Nyla Rose then it would be selling that attack a lot better. I think Deeb will play a role here in some way so that gives the win to Nyla & Hayter. Personally, I would have picked a different combination for this tag match that included the other four women left in the tournament.
Britt Baker vs Tay Conti – AEW Women’s World Championship
Baker has proven herself to be a formidable champion having defended her title against an array of different opponents. But she is yet to meet someone as dangerous as Tay Conti.
Conti’s legitimate fighting prowess has paid dividends for the Brazilian who has been on a great run since joining AEW.
The two have not met in singles action but clashed previously in tag team action, with Conti emerging victorious on both occasions.
Most recently Conti made a huge statement by sending Baker fleeing in fear after the challenger dropped Rebel with the DDTay.
This championship bout promises to be a fun and hard-hitting affair. Conti is a solid striker with great fire and intensity while Baker is as tough as they come with a tonne of ways to hurt people. Expect stiff shots, fiery back-and-forths with some outside interference thrown in for good measure.
Predictions:
John: As much as I would love to see Tay Conti beat Baker and take the title it isn’t her time yet. Baker is too valuable to the promotion as champion and is not going to lose the championship for a very long time.
Nick: Whenever Tay Conti has had her hands physically on the title it just looks right. Everything about it looks right. However, the timing of her winning doesn’t feel right. I am going with Baker retains.
