AEW releases first women’s rankings of the year

As previously reported, AEW is resetting their rankings for the new year. What was stated as a result of this reset was that the records would still be cumulative but the annual records would reset each calendar year. The last rankings of the year saw newcomer Kris Statlander at the top spot with a 3-0 record making her the number one contender.

Due to scheduling conflicts, Statlander’s match against Riho for the Women’s World Title was called off for the time being. From this, on Jan. 1 there was a Four-Way match instead with the title on the line. Along with Riho – Hikaru Shida, Nyla Rose, and Britt Baker would battle it out for the belt with Riho retaining. Statlander will now face Riho on the Jan. 8 episode.

With only one show completed for the year, Statlander is listed at the top because she is the number one contender even though she has a 0-0 record so far. In fact, the only person with a win so far is considered to be Awesome Kong and she is listed as fourth.
