NXT Referee Aja Smith has announced her engagement to NXT North American Champion Leon Ruff. Smith, who is formerly known as Aja Perera on the indie scene, signed with WWE earlier this year. Her signing in February has made her the first-ever full-time African American female referee for the company.
Her in-ring career shouldn’t go unnoticed either. She is a former Shine Nova Champion as well as a former Shine Tag Team Champion with Big Swole. Smith and Big Swole were the first and so far only all African-American tag team to hold the Shine tag titles. Shotzi Blackheart defeated her for the Nova Title prior to both women now being with NXT.
As for Ruff, he is newly signed to WWE on their NXT brand. He shocked the world a couple of weeks ago by defeating Johnny Gargano for the North American Title.
Now the couple has another reason to celebrate as Smith said “Yes.”
