Former Diva Search winner, Eve Torres has mystified fans by adopting a unique spin on the moonsault as her finisher. When I first saw it, my jaw dropped and on the two occasions she’s busted it out, it’s been perfection! The exciting move came as a shock from such a Diva — I mean Eve’s not exactly known for her in-ring prowess. But it only takes only one move to wow fans and Eve is bound to turn heads & be taken a little more seriously with her fierce handspring moonsault.
Watch Eve’s finisher, which we’ve dubbed ‘Forbidden Fruit’ below:
So as an ode to Eve, we have collated some of the other Divas who’ve used the moonsault in their arsenal — well kinda. We didn’t get too far so we included some other moonsault-esque moves too!
Follow the cut for more:
Perhaps the most famous moonsault by a female wrestler, Lita’s daredevil ‘Litasault’ has helped her to countless Women’s Championships. Bursting on the scene in 1999, the Litasault became part of Lita’s gimmick with then cohort Essa Rios, the lucha-libre wrestler who Lita managed to Light Heavyweight Championship gold. The lucha influence would stay with Lita throughout her career, as she went onto become even more successful in WWE than her one-time charge, keeping the moonsault. It was daring and extreme move for a Diva to perform but then again, Lita was classed as a ‘daring and extreme Diva’. Watch a compilation of Lita’s moonsaults over the years below:
VICTORIA
Victoria took the moonsault and added her own spin to it. The Vicious Vixen’s standing moonsault, some could say was a precursor to Eve’s, as it was mat-based as opposed to jumping off the turnbuckle. From WWE to TNA, our Knockouts Champion has a little ritual to go with her standing moonsault as she jiggles her whole body from her feet to the top of her head before delivering her below! Watch one such example below:
So we’re veering into ‘not moonsault’ territory now, but here’s something that’s just as good — Jillian’s ‘High Note’ aka the 450 splash. Unfortunately, we haven’t seen it too often on WWE television but it’s still an impressive move. Check it out below:
MOLLY HOLLY
Another ‘not-so-moonsault’ is Molly Holly’s ‘Molly-Go-Round’ was her own creation and helped her to two Women’s Championships. Such innovation is just why WWE has it’s less talented girls study tapes of Molly’s matches.
Can Eve’s Forbidden Fruit become as legendary as some of those moves? Can it bring her championship gold? We’ll see! But for now be sure to pick your favourite of the moves highlighted in this blog:
