Asuka first won the NXT Women’s Title at NXT TakeOver: Dallas where she defeated Bayley. From there, Asuka would successfully defend the title at nine different TakeOver events with her final defense happening at NXT TakeOver Brooklyn III against Ember Moon.
Earlier this week, WWE reported that Asuka suffered a collarbone injury at TakeOver: Brooklyn III.
On top of her 500 plus day as Champion, Asuka has also maintained an undefeated streak in singles competition, dethroning a record previous held by Goldberg.
WWE.com have written the following regarding Asuka relinquishing the NXT Women’s Title:
“NXT Women’s Champion Asuka relinquished her title to NXT General Manager William Regal tonight at Full Sail University in Orlando, Fla. After her dominant performance and historic 500-plus day reign as NXT Women’s Champion, The Empress of Tomorrow looks to her future for new opportunities in WWE, though no specific details are known at this time. Her reign will officially end on the date that her historic announcement airs.”
