Clash of Champions is this coming Sunday and heading into RAW, Asuka still didn’t have an opponent for her RAW Women’s Title for this event. Mickie James had a shot at the title last week, however, the ending was quite controversial as the referee said that she could no longer compete. As a result, Asuka retained.
Afterward, Zelina Vega made her way to the ring to step up to Asuka. Vega, who normally isn’t in the title picture was finally ready to add gold to her WWE career. She ended up slapping the champion to let her know how serious she was about it.
This led to the number one contender match that we witnessed tonight between James and Vega. The winner would face Asuka at Clash of Champions.
Some may call it an upset, but Vega would defeat the veteran James and punch her ticket to face Asuka this Sunday. As the match concluded, James went for her famous DDT, but Vega sent her into the ropes instead. This set up Vega to deliver a massive backstabber to get the pin.
It also appears that this match will be on the Kickoff show.
