It has been made official that a Battle Royal will take place next week on NXT. This match will reset the game for the winner as they will become Io Shirai‘s next opponent for the NXT Women’s Title.
Shirai has just hit over 100-days as champion as she won the title at the TakeOver: In Your House event in June. In that match was the then-champion Charlotte Flair and Rhea Ripley. Since then she has defended her title against Tegan Nox and Dakota Kai. Both women who will also be in this upcoming No. 1 Contender Battle Royal.
From the graphic, the list of names for the Battle Royal includes Kacy Catanzaro, Indi Hartwell, Aliyah, Dakota Kai, Candice LeRae, Rhea Ripley, Tegan Nox, Shotzi Blackheart, Raquel Gonzalez, Kayden Carter, and Xia Li. There may be some other entries as Battle Royals tend to have a few surprises.
Out of this list, LeRae has been determined to become NXT Women’s Champion as she wants both her and her husband, Johnny Gargano, to become the first married couple to hold the top titles of the brand. She also has a long history with Shirai as well.
Blackheart has been thrown in the mix lately as she had a non-title match against Shirai on tonight’s show. Shirai won, but Blackheart earned a lot of respect.
