Love is in the air, and with that WWE has a new power couple.
At the climax of WWE Stomping Grounds, real life couple Becky Lynch and Seth Rollins was brought together in a storyline thanks to Lacey Evans being the special guest referee in the WWE Universal Championship match. There, Evans would take advantage of the situation by further provoking Lynch despite her loss earlier in the night.
Antagonizing Rollins was a surefire way for Lynch to continue her feud with Evans. Even though the couple had gone public just a month prior, now art imitates life thanks to their reigns as Universal and Raw Women’s Champion, respectively.
In this day and age, the lines are blurred between story and reality. Still, fans found themselves surprised that WWE pulled the trigger to bring the real-life romance to TV. Using Evans as referee to further the feud with Lynch was a smart decision, and one that will be sure to be the center stage of Extreme Rules in a few weeks. It gives leverage not only to Lynch and Rollins, but it works just as well for Evans and Baron Corbin, who want nothing more than to bring the couple down.
Since the days of Triple H and Stephanie McMahon reigning terror as Champions in the early 2000s, seeing Lynch and Rollins brings a breath of fresh air in regards to them playing the babyfaces. Since last fall, Lynch has had an incredible transformation into a bonafide powerhouse. Rollins has always had success thanks to The Shield and his accomplishments since its inception.
A common fact between the two is that they took down world renowned UFC fighters at WrestleMania. Ronda Rousey and Brock Lesnar were deemed unstoppable thanks to their background. Nobody could touch them for such a long time.
For Lynch and Rollins to be able to put them both down is a pretty big deal considering the monster booking the latter received. In order for WWE to move forward in a new direction, it was the right move, with the budding romance adding icing to the cake.
Its almost like Rick Grimes and Michonne from The Walking Dead, or perhaps an iconic couple such as Bonnie and Clyde . People love these type of pairings as lovers and as a team. Becky Lynch and Seth Rollins are the power couple, the IT couple for this new transition in WWE. Those who kick ass together, reign together.
