Becky Lynch Becomes First WWE Superstar to Appear on ESPN Cover

As if main eventing WrestleMania 35 wasn’t enough for The Man, Becky Lynch has yet accomplished another milestone.

WWE announced today that Lynch will be on the “Blockbuster” issue cover of ESPN Magazine.  She will be sharing the cover with actress Alison Brie.  Brie stars in the Netflix program GLOW – inspired by the 1980s promotion Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling.  The show is critically acclaimed, with a third season to premiere on Netflix in August.

Lynch’s cover makes her the first WWE Superstar to grace the cover of the popular magazine.

Just past the halfway mark of 2019, Lynch has broken serious ground for the WWE Women’s Division, and Women’s Wrestling.  She, Charlotte Flair, and Ronda Rousey share the WrestleMania main event distinction.  However, Lynch is still white hot as Raw Women’s Champion.  She may be one belt less, but with her feud with Lacey Evans has continued to gain steam, as it’s a program of interest.

With Women’s Wrestling achieving grandiose heights this year, ESPN’s choice makes plenty of sense.  Lynch has had an astounding rise to the top of the WWE Women’s Division from last fall to the present.  As part of WWE’s “Four Horsewomen”, Lynch has fought tooth and nail to achieve goals that seemed only like a dream not even five years ago.

Brie plays Ruth Wilder, the main character for GLOW.  Wilder is a struggling actress who comes across the GLOW promotion.  With the role of Wilder comes practice and learning the ins and outs of the squared circle.  Both she and Lynch were interviewed for ESPN, with Brie explaining how learning pro wrestling has changed how she views her body and gaining confidence.

Both women share similarities of their respective careers throughout the course of the interview.  Also, Lynch expresses pride in the historic WrestleMania main event as well as recounting her journey to becoming “The Man”.  It was the perfect scenario to feature the top women in both pro wrestling and a show about wrestling.  The issue will be released this coming Friday.
