Becky Lynch on her time in NXT: “NXT wasn’t what it is now”

Becky Lynch was recently interviewed by Brian Koppleman on his podcast. Among the many topics discussed was Lynch’s time in developmental. She was in NXT from 2013 to 2015 where she eventually was ushered in as part of the Four Horsewomen along with Sasha Banks, Charlotte Flair, and Bayley.

She is the current RAW Women’s Champion and participated in the first-ever women’s main event at WrestleMania which she won. Although she is on top of the RAW women’s division now, at one time things were quite stressful for Lynch in NXT.

She had the following to say about her time in NXT:

“I had to beg to be put in a match,” Lynch admitted. “When I went down there, I had no confidence. I humbled myself almost to a fault. Sara Del Ray was the trainer and I had wrestled her in Japan, and I didn’t want her thinking I was full of myself or better than anybody.”

She continued, “NXT wasn’t what it is now. You were constantly scared of losing your job. Everyone was a minute away from being fired. One wrong move, one wrong promo, one wrong thing said, everyone was walking on eggshells. Which isn’t a bad thing, but I was losing sleep because I wanted it so bad. There were girls that had never wrestled before getting on the shows before me. I remember going to Bill DeMott and begging him to please let me just prove I can connect to the audience.”

Thankfully for the fans of WWE and professional wrestling in general, Lynch stayed determined.
