Becky Lynch Provides Comment on the AEW Women’s Division

Former Raw Women’s Champion Becky Lynch recently spoke on the growth in the WWE women’s division.

While speaking with Drew Garabo Live Featured Cut of the Day, Lynch was asked what pivoted women’s wrestling in WWE from the Divas era to what we see today with stars such as herself being main event quality.

Lynch responded, “Me (jokingly). No, But really I think it was first of all a hungry group of girls that loved it. That were tired of being relegated to two-minute matches, 30-second matches even. And the audience seeing that we were capable of so much more and wanting that for us and letting their voices be heard.

She continues, “Triple H never treated us like we were any different than the guys. Always made sure we were represented on NXT with great stories, with time, with opportunity. And it just grew from there, and it was a spark. I think once we proved that we were capable of hanging with the guys, and we were capable of stealing the show.”

Later in the interview after speaking to Lynch about a potential match with Trish Stratus and her memorable match against Lita back in February, she was asked about the competition. The competition outside of WWE in the form of AEW and if she feels that it makes her raise the bar.

“I wish I could say ‘yes,’ but, unfortunately, I don’t think they are represented the way we are, they don’t get as much time as we get, and frankly, they’re not as good as we are.”

She continues, “We have, certainly on Raw, we have the best women’s division in the world. I say that without any hesitation in my voice. We have the best women’s division in the world. Competition is great and it’s great for there to be another place and I have a very good friend, Ruby Soho, over there and I would love to see her as champion one day. I would love to see her get the spotlight she deserves. Competition is always great. Over here, we’re on another level right now.”

Lynch made her return to Raw for the first time since losing the Raw Women’s Title to Bianca Belair at WrestleMania earlier in the month. She was interrupted by a returning Asuka as the two are set to begin a program together.
