Becky Lynch is currently taking a breather from wrestling as she has been spending time away from the ring. Her last match was a rematch for the Women’s World Title against Liv Morgan in a steel cage at the end of May. It was reported her contract with WWE was up on June 1 with no follow up on re-signing.
In an interview on Games with Names, Lynch shared the following about her break from wrestling.
“It’s great. It’s great. Everything is great. I have my wonderful little family. I have many options on the table. I get to, for the first time in a long time, get to take a breath to appreciate everything. When you’re on the road 52 weeks a year, non-stop, going from town to town to town, and in the last three years, I added to the chaos by having a daughter who I would bring everywhere with me. On top of that, I decided it would be good to write my biography. For the last year or two, it was pure chaos. Now, I’m taking a little bit more time. I’m taking a breath. Getting to look around the world. Getting to look at what I created and evaluate everything. It’s been wonderful.” (Fightful)
The last on Lynch’s status with WWE was reported by Fightful Select who stated that their sources hadn’t heard anything of Lynch retiring.
Fightful reached out to sources close to the situation and WWE. WWE sources said that if she was retired in an official capacity, they haven’t been informed of it as of yet, and didn’t believe if she did retire, that it would be via Instagram. However, it was also noted by one WWE source that she’s not under a WWE deal to their knowledge and could retire without notifying them if she so chose.
WWE sources have repeatedly stated that Becky is enjoying her time off, and they wanted to be respectful of her space after what she’s given them over the years. It was also reiterated that she would always be welcomed back into WWE. At the time her contract expired, she was planning on simply taking time off, and WWE and Lynch both believed if and when the time was right that she’d be back in the fold.
