Jake’s Pick: Alicia Fox snaps
When I was asked what my favorite moment of the year for 2014 was I was stuck. There were some quite memorable matches, iconic promos…and ugly outfits (Hi Brie‘s Christina Aguilera pants) so it was quite a difficult task. I almost had a meltdown deciding which moment to choose and then it hit me. The answer was right there in the question. Alicia Fox’s first meltdown was the obvious choice.
Let’s go back to May, shall we? Earlier on that fateful Monday news broke of Solange’s meltdown and assault of Jay-Z on an elevator. I ate up every second of it. Usually, WWE is a little behind on pop culture (see Flo Rida) so I was shocked to see one of WWE’s Divas have a meltdown of her own. After a loss (and excellent match) to Paige, Alicia snapped. Our favorite Fox threw a temper tantrum and began yelling obscenities at the audience. She grabbed JBL’s tacky cowboy hat and stormed off in a fit of rage. Fans weren’t quite sure what to expect, Alicia hadn’t been doing much of anything for a while so it was surprising to see WWE give her a character.
Rumors even began circulating the Internet that Alicia had quit on the WWE app (strange) and she even cut a promo saying she hadn’t quit. This was the beginning of Alicia’s rebirth. For weeks, she had more hilarious tantrums, a title match with Paige on PPV and even got a new action figure this year. Regardless of all the Bellas, Stephanie McMahon, AJ Lee and Paige stories this year was the year of Alicia Fox in this writer’s opinion. Let’s hope for more tantrums in 2015.
