Beth Phoenix and Maryse to meet at the Royal Rumble in Mixed Tag Match; All eyes are set on the RAW Women’s Title

Following Day 1 over the weekend, Becky Lynch is still Raw Women’s Championship despite the heart and determination of Liv Morgan. Now, all eyes are on the champion for a title shot at the upcoming Royal Rumble event.

On the first Raw of 2022, Becky Lynch went to the ring to issue some words of encouragement for the new year…or maybe not.

She discusses the new year and how it brings hope to people. That sentiment may be true, but the women in the locker room who are hoping to take the title off Big Time Becks won’t happen any time soon according to the champ. She adds that within the past 365-days she has become a work of art.

After revealing herself as the WWE Vincent Van GOAT, she let everyone know that their new year’s resolutions won’t happen. Lynch addressed Liv Morgan by saying that as of the first day of the year, she broke her promise to the fans and to herself by not winning the Raw Women’s Title.

Morgan interrupted and made her way to the ring. She says that Becky knows that she almost beat her on Sunday. Lynch follows up by saying that Morgan may be champion one day but only after Lynch retires.

Bianca Belair‘s music hits and the EST throws her name into the mix. She says that she doesn’t trust Lynch as far as she can throw her. But then again, she realizes that doesn’t make much sense because she can throw Lynch pretty far. Belair said she stepped aside and took a Doudrop detour and allowed others to step up. But now she is back in line to the championship.

Morgan and Belair try to one-up each other on who should be addressing Lynch. Lynch said that they can work it out themselves but instead, Morgan and Belair double team the champion and toss her out. The two then go after each other in the ring.

Belair drives Morgan into the ring before Morgan hits a step-up enziguri. Belair goes for the KOD but Lynch re-enters the ring and hits her from behind. Big Time Becks then hits a Manhandle Slam on Belair to end the segment.

Doudrop was seen later backstage angry and yelling at both Adam Pearce and Sonya Deville. She demands a championship match and she is tired of seeing the same women in the title picture. Pearce and Deville agreed to give her a shot to get a title match at Royal Rumble. She will face Liv Morgan and Bianca Belair next week to determine the number one contender.

Beth Phoenix made her return to WWE programming at Day 1. She made sure that her husband Edge defeated The Miz after keeping Maryse away from the final decision of the match. The four met in the ring on this week’s Raw. Edge laid out the challenge for the two power couples to face off at the Royal Rumble. The IT couple vs. the GRIT couple.

After the challenge was delivered by the Hall of Famers, The Miz accepted. Much to the dismay of Maryse. Phoenix faked out Maryse with a punch that had the former two-time Divas Champion fall to the mat.

Other moments on Raw:

Dana Brooke & Reggie defeated Tamina & Akira Tozawa

The first match that featured the women was a mixed tag team match for the 24/7 Championship. Similar to last week, the 24/7 Champion Dana Brooke teamed up with Reggie as they faced Tamina and instead of R-Truth this week it was Akira Tozawa. With it being a tag team match and the title being on the line, if Dana were to get pinned, she would lose the title.

Dana didn’t have to worry about that rule because the match was over very quickly and she wasn’t even tagged in. Reggie won the match for his team by pinning Tozawa. Tozawa inadvertently struck his own partner Tamina on the ring apron.

Queen Zelina & Carmella (c) defeated Rhea Ripley & Nikki A.S.H. – Women’s Tag Team Title Match

The WWE Women’s Tag Team Titles were on the line as the former champs received a rematch. The champions Carmella and Queen Zelina defended against Nikki A.S.H. and Rhea Ripley. Much similar to the 24/7 Championship match, this one was very short and Carmella never entered the ring.

Queen Zelina and Carmella retained the titles after Zelina pinned Nikki. Nikki who hasn’t been able to get out of her losing ways for quite some time now, apologized to Ripley after the match.
